A competitive eight-race card awaits us at Cairns on Tuesday and we've got your race-by-race preview with suggested plays.

Picture: Racing and Sports

Race 1 - 12:57PM Gordons Gin Fashion High Tea @ CJC 22nd August Maiden Handicap - 1250m

The maidens kick us off. Geraldine's Wish (4) is unlucky to still be a maiden placing in eight of 14 overall and strikes a very winnable contest here. Has placed five of seven over this distance range and will be ready to peak now fourth-up from the spell. Rates the testing material. Innovates (3) placed around this circuit when resuming from a lengthy spell and will have come on with that run now under the belt. Can trouble the judge without surprising. Echelon Magic (10) is another first-up off a long lay-off but showed enough when last in work to warrant consideration in a race like this. Keep very safe. Maven (1) was well in the betting when returning from the break and where there's smoke there's fire. Capable of a much better showing. Kellisa (7) strips fitter third-up and may earn some minor money from the low draw.

Suggested Play: Geraldine's Wish to finally shed the maiden tag.

Race 2 - 1:34PM Living Turf QTIS Two-Years-Old Handicap - 950m

One for the babies. Gold Classic (1) didn't measure up in a rich Townsville maiden last time out but the form prior was good enough for a race like this. Is yet to miss a quinella spot in four attempts over this sprint trip and a return to form looks on the cards. Whiskey River (2) is having his first run for the new stable but showed enough in his first preparation to suggest he'd be competitive in this contest. Looms as the main danger. Raff Vader (3) broke the maiden status before the spell and will have derived a stack of confidence from that victory. Winning hoop Wiggins reunites and has definite top-three aspirations. Nooshbahoosh (5) may have suffered from the dreaded second-up syndrome last time out but go on the strong win over this course and distance on debut. Worth another chance. Tarong (6) next in line while fresh.

Suggested Play: Gold Classic to bounce back.

Race 3 - 2:12PM Corey Machan Sheetmetal BM65 Handicap - 1900m

Looks a wide open affair. The well-related Perovic (5) (half to 2xG1 winner King's Legacy) got the job done over this track and trip two back before just running into a couple better at Innisfail last time out. Gets winning rider Cormack back in the saddle and maps well in the run from gate three. Should prove very tough to hold out. Bold Feeling (10) has gotten better with each run this time in work and looks ready for the step-up in trip now. Sure to give backers a sight up on speed. Harrow (3) has placed three from five around this circuit and gun hoop Wiggins stays on board. Better than recent efforts suggest. John Joseph (2) is usually thereabouts and is a must for the exotics players. Olympic Korchnoi (1) is a last-start winner who shouldn't be slept on.

Suggested Play: Leaning towards Perovic.

Race 4 - 2:47PM Happy 60TH Birthday Ross McGee Class 3 Handicap - 1250m

Former Waller galloper Kirikan (3) doesn't win out of turn but has hit the top-five in ten of his past 11 outings in tougher company and will appreciate the drop back in grade here. Gets Wiggins on top to navigate from the sticky draw and a bold showing while fresh is expected. Arctic Bear (2) has won two of his past three over this six-furlong journey and is racing with a lot of confidence of late. Handles all going and another strong effort would not shock. Highbar (1) strips fitter third-up from the break and is more than capable enough on his day. Include in calculations. Noble Attack (6) has a win and a second from two attempts over this course and distance and should be hitting the line with gusto. In the mix. Bradshaw (7) has only missed a drum once in eight starts over this trip and shouldn't be ignored.

Suggested Play: Boxed Trifecta 3,2,1,6.

Race 5 - 3:27PM Holmes Commercial Real Estate Class 3 Handicap - 1250m

Lean Eagle (1) loves it here around this circuit with two wins and two seconds from just five starts and gets regular rider Wiggins in the irons again from the favourable draw. Racing in a rich vein of form and should be going very close. Skogafoss (4) is two from two over this track and trip and doesn't know how to put in a poor one. Has to be included. Ellie's Dream (7) has remarkably hit the top-five in 13 of his past 14 starts and gets a jockey upgrade in the form of Cormack. Top-three candidate. Former Waller galloper Attentive (8) just ran into one better here when having her first run for the new yard and can feature with natural improvement. Raetihi (2) is a former Victorian who should find this easier than what he faced down south. Respect any market confidence.

Suggested Play: Boxed Trifecta 1,4,7,8.

Race 6 - 4:04PM Clive Gordon Memorial BM65 Handicap - 950m

Lady Damus (5) has hit a purple patch of form this campaign with three wins and a placing from just four starts with Wiggins being in the saddle for two of those victories. Hard to knock mares in form and looks the one they all have to run down. Candlelit (4) resumes here but the form he showed when last in work was good enough for a race of this nature. Tuned up for this with a recent trial win and can run a big race while fresh. Super Art (9) strung three wins together before the break and was racing with a lot of confidence. Shapes as one to consider while fresh. Snitzaroo (3) was a touch disappointing last time out but had won four of five prior. Worth another chance. Impardoo (10) next in line from the inside alley.

Suggested Play: Lady Damus to win again.

Race 7 - 4:42PM Walkers Property & Business Lawyers Ratings Band 0 - 55 Handicap - 1400m

Lord Power (5) saves his best form for this seven-furlong distance range with two wins and three placings from seven outings and should be able to lead them up from the low draw. Is a two-time winner around this circuit and has saluted on all going. Rates among the leading contenders. Superstitions (6) doesn't win out of turn but has only missed the top-four once in 14 career efforts and is usually thereabouts. Cannot be left out of calculations. It's Been A Trek (9) has gotten better with each run this campaign and looks to be nearing another victory. Top-three commodity. The well-related Store Beach (3) (half to G1 winner and stallion Captivant) will be ready to peak now third-up from the spell and is certainly one for the multiples. Substance (1) best of the rest from the inside marble.

Suggested Play: Boxed Trifecta 5,6,9,3.

Race 8 - 5:20PM Ladbrokes Odds Surge Open Handicap - 1400m

Stats (2) has a handy record here on his home surface with four wins and three placings from ten starts and has a good affinity with rider Wiggins in the stirrups. Only needs some luck from the wide draw to be playing a major role in the finish. Choir Boy (4) was a dominant winner is lesser company at the latest effort and will have taken a stack of confidence from that victory. Worth following up. Valenki (7) has only missed a drum once in four runs around this circuit and will be rock-hard fit for this. Anticipating a big run. Stadium Of Light (11) has never missed a place in eight starts over this seven-furlong journey and will strip fitter second-up from the break. Sure to be thereabouts. Divine Okay (8) rounds out the selections in a competitive contest to close out the card.

Suggested Play: Stats don't lie.
