NEWCASTLE December 4

Beaumont Grass; Good 4

14 Heats; 1 x 1200m (Open); 5 x 1000m (2 Open; 3 Maiden); 8 x 800m (2 Open; 1 2YO; 5 Maiden)

Good provincial prospects should emerge from this session.

METALLIC RULER (Sam Kavanagh): This Capitalist 4YO has won three of his seven starts and looks set for further success after a strong win in his 800m heat (47.92; 34.16) in his first appearance since July. Worked home from off the pace for a soft win.

ZOUTASTIC (Terry Croft): Zousain filly has one placing in four starts but is trialling like a potential winner. Followed up a Rosehill heat win on November 4 with an easy win in this 800m heat in good time (47.01; 33.96) that will have her primed to perform when she resumes.

A couple of maidens to impress in the 1000m heats included CRYINISE and MERCHANT GOLD finishing 1-2 in their 1000m heat (61.17; 34.86) and the previously noted trial winner PROSPEROUS DRAGON (60.52; 34.64). In the 800m heats the speedy heat winners FORMAL (45.45; 33.40) and VALILEE (45.49; 33.31) will be well placed in suitable provincial maidens.

CANTIAMO, A Too Darn Hot filly, looked well educated winning the 2YO heat over 800m (46.03; 33.53) with some style from a promising Capitalist colt HIDDEN MOTIVE.

CANTERBURY December 3

Course Proper; Soft 7

20 Heats – 5 x 1100m (2 Open; 3 Maiden); 5 x 902m (4 Open; 1 2YO); 5 x 900m (4 2YO; 1 Maiden); 5 x 898m (5 Maiden)

A big session that will lay a platform for summer winners.

MEMO (Peter Snowden): Gimcrack Stakes placegetter warmed up for her Magic Millions assault with a classy win in her 900m heat (55.81; 35.91). a soft run behind the leader before angling between runners at the 200m and surging to the line under a kind ride for a soft win. She's looked good from the start and is in the right stable to develop into a good filly.

MORAVIA (Michael Freedman): Had a bit on his rivals in the fastest 902m heat (55.09; 35.34), travelling well within himself from the start while covering ground. Cruised to the line with plenty in reserve and should be a player in good class races over the summer.

There were five 2YO heats (1 x 902m; 4 x 900m) with MEMO an obvious standout. All Too Hard filly HORSEHOE HILL also impressed winning her 900m heat in good style, tracking three wide outside the leaders and responding well with strong work over the last 200m in her 900m heat (55.88; 35.86).

The Waterhouse/Bott youngsters WILLINGHAM and FARSEY are a racy pair who showed good speed to fight out their 900m heat (56.20; 36.25). The 2YO heat over 902m was won by ARTISTIC VENTURE in comparable time with other heats (55.81; 35.88) while the slowest 900m heat was taken out by SOUTHERN PRINCE (57.23; 36.80).

STARDEEL and MAJORCA SUNSET are well regarded maidens in the Bjorn Baker stable. They were beaten as short priced favourites in maidens late last season but showed they are ready to win races with sharp wins in their heats (STARDEEL 900m 55.92; 36.26); MAJORCA SUNSET 898m 55.75; 36.15). Other maidens to impress included the 1100m heat winner PIGGYBACK (69.22; 37.21) and SHE CONQUERS running fast time in her 898m heat (55.22; 35.29).

The promising WINSTON HILLS added another impressive trial to his record, tracking three wide before running away from his rivals in his open heat over 1100m (67.98; 35.55). The 902m open heat winners INCARCERATED (55.88; 35.67) and WONDEREACH (56.18; 35.53) did all that was required to dominate their heats while eye catchers in the open heats included TIGER TOWN and LAVISH EMPIRE.
