Selections and best bets from Chris Scholtz for the Randwick meeting on June 21 plus Trial Watch and Blackbook runners.
RANDWICK June 21
Best Bets
RACE 4 – (9) SHE'S UNUSUAL: Lightly raced mare is ready to deliver third up after two 1400m placings on slow and very heavy Randwick surfaces since resuming. Resumed with a late finish for a close second to Thunderlips on a slow Kensington track in late April then went a month before she couldn't sprint in the Heavy 10 conditions when third behind Miss Kim Kar on May 24. She's finished out of the money only once in nine starts and with much better track conditions for the step up to 1600m expect her show her true worth.
RACE 9 – (13) HEADLEY GRANGE: Justified heavy market support first-up when he split runners late for a dominant win over 1300m at this course on June 7, giving him his seventh win from 17 starts over distances from 1100m to 1600m. He's never finished worse than fourth in his last 14 starts and is ideally placed to open his black type account dropping 3kg in weight off his first-up win to be carrying only 1kg over the limit. Maps to enjoy the run of the race trailing a keen speed with several noted leaders in this field.

TRIAL POINTERS
RANDWICK June 13: Talented 5YO WHINCHAT was back at the trials under an embargo after his costly performance at Randwick on June 7 when he missed the start by five lengths. There were no issues with him in his 1050m heat, jumping on terms before pulling his way up to second outside the leader under a big hold. Jay Ford was obviously under instructions to give the gelding an easy trial with the big gelding going to the line under no pressure for a narrow win while still running the fastest time in the 1050m heats (62.99; 33.91). There were some handy types in the 2YO trials over 1050m with the heat winner GAMBLER (63.91; 34.63) primed to perform at the races.
HAWKESBURY June 10: The fastest 1000m heat was won by the good class performer PHEARSON (58.66; 33.19), coming from off the pace with strong work over the last 200m that indicates he is in the right form to perform well through the winter.
ROSEHILL June 6: Renowned front runner IKNOWASTAR did his usual thing to win the fastest of the five 1030m heats by an easy 6.5 lengths (62.32; 34.66). He'll improve on his first-up performance in Brisbane with his extra fitness.
RANDWICK May 30: GETAFIX put in good work through the line to finish second in his 1045m heat.
ROSEHILL May 29: Heat winners worth noting included GAMBLER.
RANDWICK April 24: 2YO heat winners to make an impression included MIMI'S.
NEWCASTLE April 16: HERMAN SAID made an impression with his strong work over the last 200m.
HAWKESBURY February 24: A good team of Godolphin runners impressed in their trials including the heat winner AMUSING.
