Chris Scholtz reviews Sydney and provincial trials at Canterbury and Gosford on August 18 and Randwick on August 19.
RANDWICK August 19
Polytrack; 9 Heats
3 x 1080m (1 Open; 2 Maiden); 6 x 780m (3 Open; 3 Maiden)
All heats were transferred to the all weather Polytrack due to the ongoing wet weather.
The Waterhouse/Bott stable won six of the nine trials including all five maiden heats over780m.
Chris Waller provided all eight runners in an open heat over 780m (48.13; 34.82) including Group winners ANGEL CAPITAL, MILITARIZE, BUCKAROO and McHALE. ANGEL CAPITAL won the heat in good style for his second trial win since joining the stable from Victoria.

RAGING FORCE (Peter Snowden): Another impressive piece of work from this gelding in his first trial since he won three on the bounce in June and July. Had plenty in reserve posting a soft win in his 1080m heat (63.93; 33.87), work that will have him ready to take on some good 3YO races in coming weeks.
NOTED TRIALS
XX Raging Force
X Aerodrome; Angel Capital; Comic Culture; Feared; Heat Missile; Militarize; Rock Empire; Strait Acer
CANTERBURY August 18
Course Proper; Heavy 8
22 Heats – 8 x 1100m (1 Group/Listed; 3 Open; 4 C1/Maiden); 2 x 900m (Group/Listed); 6 x 905m (5 Open; 1 Maiden); 6 x 902m (6 Maiden)
This big set of trials were transferred from Rosehill with many of the runners in the three black type heats trialling by necessity in the heavy conditions to fit their preps for the spring.
HEAT 1 (1100m): On pace was the place to be in most trials with CONVERGE dictating the speed and doing what was required to hold a margin to the line over STEFFI MAGNETICA with the time well outside standard (69;26; 36.53). LINDERMANN has been working strongly in his prep trials, finishing third with plenty in reserve.

It's an all the way win for the @GaiWaterhouse1 & Adrian Bott stalwart in an 1100m trial at Canterbury on Monday. Behind the placings were Memo and Athabascan. @tabcomau pic.twitter.com/YauqRKoBi6
HEAT 2 (900m): The flying mare BONITA QUEEN showed her usual speed to open up a big margin on the field (56.65; 36.93). She came back to them over the last 200m with KING OF POP the one to impress closing her down to 1.4 lengths on the line. Stablemates SWIFTFALCON and NEPOTISM took the eye with their late work.
The speedy @BBakerRacing mare Bonita Queen stretches them out and holds on to win a 900m Canterbury trial on Monday over King Of Pop with Swiftfalcon in third. Other triallers were Nepotism, Coleman, Molly Bloom & Hidden Achievement. @tabcomau pic.twitter.com/q4XvwqprfY

HEAT 3 (900m): Top class grey BRIASA is back better than ever, cruising through this heat for a soft win in faster time than the previous trial (56.22; 35.99) in an effort that is certain to improve his fitness. One of last season's better 2YOs RIVELLINO impressed with a strong third after covering ground from the 500m.

Birthday boy @ZacLloydx guides the #TABEverest third favourite to a comfortable trial win over 900m at Canterbury on Monday. Others to trial were North England, Commemorative, West Of Africa & Shadizi. @tabcomau pic.twitter.com/Qm39Ghzr41
Keep an eye on these heat winners in their right class.
FIRE STAR (Peter Snowden): Good work by this Deep Field 5YO to win his 905m heat with authority. Likes the sting out of the ground so it was no surprise that he had the measure of some good types with something in reserve (57.20; 37.03)
FEDERALIST (Hawkes Racing): Maiden colt by I Am Invincible had only three starts last season, taking on some of the top juvenile Group races. Suspect his astute stable has a good opinion of his potential with his strong work to come from off the pace and win his 902m heat (57.72; 37.71) a good pointer to his future prospects.
Among the better open heat winners were LORD OF BISCAY, GANGSTA GRANNY, EMIRATE and OUR QUEEN.
Maidens to keep tabs on include DOLCE DIOR; CAVALRY; MICHELANGELO; MARSEPT; XINGXING; PROVIDENCE and PRINCE CHARGE.

GOSFORD August 18
Course Proper; Heavy 8
16 Heats – 6 x 1000m (3 Open; 3 Maiden); 10 x 800m (4 Open; 6 Maiden)
Some classy trials from prominent spring prospects.
PRIVATE HARRY (Nathan Doyle): Exciting sprinter did all that was needed for a soft win in his 1000m heat (60.52; 35.34) in his first trial since his G1 Galaxy win in March. Had more than four lengths to spare at the finish under the easiest of rides while posting the quickest time in the six 1000m heats.
"Private Harry coasts down to the line under his own steam."

SPIRIT OF WEALTH (Michael Freedman): Backed up his recent Warwick Farm trial win with another sharp display to win his 800m heat in fast time for the conditions (49.10; 35.50). With just the three starts behind him he has the potential to go a long way this season as a 4YO.
The G1 winner JIMMYSSTAR did his best work late for third in his 800m heat, putting in impressive work through the line in his second trial visit to Gosford.
Tanglewood, third in #TheKosciuszko in 2024, wins an 800m trial at @gosford_races on Monday. The @Toddhowlettrac1 gelding beat Broadway Bouncer with @cmaherracing's #TABEverest contender Jimmysstar a closing third. @tabcomau pic.twitter.com/M2SqwhAxTF
