ROSEHILL September 13

Best Bets

RACE 3 – (4) TAZIMA: Lightly raced import will appreciate taking on 2400m for the first time after making a steady rise through his first Australian prep, winning over 1800m at Randwick before his last start third over 2000m at this course when he couldn't sprint with stablemate Travolta from the 200m. He's had only six starts and rates to win with his scope for improvement.

RACE 5 – (9) CATCH THE GLORY: Progressive mare has found her niche at Rosehill. Her last three starts have all been over this course and distance,  producing two placings and a last start win when she sprinted hard to the line for a clear win under 57.5kg posting a time well in advance of the standard for this class. She's up for the rise in class and can do it again with nice weight relief from a favourable draw.

RACE 8 - (9) TEMPTED: Expecting a big return from this top class filly in her first start for her new trainer Ciaron Maher. Trialled sweetly at Randwick on a Soft 7, a positive sign she is set to build on last season's record when she arguably should have won both the Blue Diamond and Golden Slipper. She was rewarded with G2 wins in the Reisling Stakes (beating the Slipper winner Marhoona) and the Percy Sykes, ratings that placed her in the top echelon in an average year.

Why They Can Win….

RACE 1 – (3) ZOURIPPER: Deserving last start win in the heavy. Rises 1.5kg but same class and favoured again by soft conditions.

RACE 2 – (5) ADOLPHUS: Just a run short in tough ground when resuming. Open to plenty of improvement off that effort.

RACE 4 – (9) KAPAKIRI: Big WF win then couldn't sprint under 57kg over the shorter trip. Ready to peak over this favourable distance.

RACE 6 – (3) PROVIDENCE: Had plenty to offer when decked in the Up And Coming. Expect a big rebound.

RACE 7 – (8) GANGSTA GRANNY: Her Autumn Glow form is first class. Hard to run down in soft ground with her weight advantage.

RACE 9 – (5) AUTUMN GLOW: Short odds to maintain her unbeaten run. Market reflects her class.

RACE 10 – (5) CAPTAIN FURAI: Has been costly but Rawiller's strength can make a difference. Weights are in his favour.

TRIAL POINTERS

WARWICK FARM September 4: Classy Kiwi 6YO PIER, a G1 winner as a 3YO in NZ, is an imposing gelding who covers plenty of ground, taking big strides as he surged to the line under an easy ride from Andrew Calder for an impressive second in his 790m heat won by the pacy MAZ KANATA (46.13; 32.91). It was a lovely piece of work over a distance well short of his best.

RANDWICK September 2: G1 winners JOLIESTAR and STEFI MAGNETICA looks ready for bold first-up performances after trialling nicely behind AIRMAN in a strong open heat over 1050m (64.39; 34.39). AIRMAN sprinted strongly to the line after tracking the leader while JOLIESTAR was unextended to finish third. STEFI MAGNETICA impressed with her easy work for fourth after covering more ground than JOLIESTAR. Top class filly TEMPTED made a pleasing return in her first trial for her new trainer Ciaron Maher, never coming off the bit to finish an easy second in the 1050m heat (64.30; 34.37). FORTUNE also trialled strongly while the horse to watch out of this heat is the promising SAN GIOVANNI, a lightly raced 3YO who won his first two provincial starts in July. He travelled widest from the start but was always under a good hold and worked to the line equally as well as the much better performed Group horses. Has a bright future. Maidens looking primed for good showings include FEDERALIST and MASTER OF THE AIR.

ROSEHILL August 28: Peter Snowden is in a sweet spot after impressive trials by some of his spring prospects. FIRE STAR gets a second successive 2 Star rating after backing up his recent Canterbury trial win on August 18 with another impressive display in his 1030m heat (61.91; 34.40), striding freely to the line more than three lengths clear. Set for a first-up kill. Stablemate MEDIA WORLD made an excellent return in his first trial since June, having plenty in reserve taking out his 1030m heat (61.88; 35.05), Sure to be a player in anything he contests up to 1600m. In the 900m heats COASTWATCH was an easy winner in slow time (56.66; 35.37) in a deep heat. Other 900m trials that commanded attention were the efforts by AUTUMN BOY and MODELLA.

WARWICK FARM August 22: A full set of synthetic trials. In an open heat over 740m big names to trial under no pressure included JOLIESTAR and EL CASTELLO.

CANTERBURY August 18: This big set of trials were transferred from Rosehill with many of the runners in the three black type heats trialling by necessity in the heavy conditions to fit their preps for the spring. On pace was the place to be in most trials. STEFFI MAGNETICA worked home nicely in the first black type heat over 1100m but the time well outside standard (69.26; 36.53). In Heat 2 (900m) NEPOTISM took the eye with his late work. Good work by Deep Field 5YO FIRE STAR to win his 905m heat with authority. Likes the sting out of the ground so it was no surprise that he had the measure of some good types with something in reserve (57.20; 37.03). FEDERALIST is a maiden colt by I Am Invincible who had only three starts last season, taking on some of the top juvenile Group races. Suspect his astute stable has a good opinion of his potential with his strong work to come from off the pace and win his 902m heat (57.72; 37.71) a good pointer to his future prospects.

WARWICK FARM July 25: In the black type heat over 1000m ENCAP took the trail and railed through when the leader shifted wide. Sprinted home for a soft win (59.67; 34.61).

RANDWICK July 22: Classy Zousain filly BELLAZAINE trucked through her 740m heat for an impressive win (44.37; 33.96), sitting wide to the turn before surging clear under no pressure. Looks readymade for an early kill in the new season.

ROSEHILL July 4: BILLABONG, a racy unraced I Am Invincible filly having her second trial, posted the quickest time in the 900m heats (54.52; 35.32)
