Chris Scholtz reviews barrier trials at Wyong on November 10 and Warwick Farm on November 13.
WARWICK FARM November 13
Inside Grass/Poly; Good 4
15 Heats – 3 x 1200m (1 Open; 2 Maiden); 4 x 801m (4 Open); 4 x 799m (2 2YO; 2 Maiden); 3 x 796m 3 Maiden); 1 Poly x 740m (Open)
Crack sprinter OVERPASS tuned up for another Perth visit with an easy second in the open heat over 1200m.
He's rarely headed in trials but this time Josh Parr took hold from the start and allowed the renowned leader AMOR VICTORIOUS to run out to a big lead through the first 800m. AMOR VICTORIOUS was given a solid workout to maintain his lead, scoring by more than six lengths (71.89; 34.40) while OVERPASS was never asked for a serious effort, striding easily under a big hold from Parr.
STORMFIELD (Gary Portelli): Impressive work by this Written By 4YO to win his open heat over 801m in quick time (46.63; 32.94). He was always in control and went to the line as easy as you like with plenty in reserve in his second trial after a long spell, being off the scene since January. He's only had four starts for a country maiden win and should be well placed in suitable restricted company.
UNITED STATES (Chris Waller): This maiden colt by Snitzel attracted plenty of attention last season with Waller thinking enough of him to send him north for 2YO feature races at the Brisbane carnival. He's got potential and will take plenty of benefit from his eye catching third in his 796m heat won by FOREIGN AFFAIRS (I47.08; 33.66), being ridden quietly at the rear before making ground easily over the last 200m under a hold.
In the open heats there were some notable efforts from Group class performers SPYWIRE winning his 801m heat (47.95; 33.02) and WEST OF AFRICA having plenty to offer with a hard held fourth in his heat over the same distance (47.81; 33.61). KING'S SECRET was another to capture attention with his good effort for fourth in his 801m heat (46.64; 33.03). Talented mare PIPPIE BEACH also worked well winning the only poly heat over 740m heat (46.48; 35.30).
Several good maiden trials took the eye including KONSA, EL QASABI, DIVING TIMING and MAN OF WORTH.
The form in the two 2YO heats over 799m looks sound. REGAL PROFIT was a sharp winner of the first heat in quicker time (46.20; 33.12) than the second heat winner I AM DIRTY (46.55; 33.31) but both have plenty of natural speed. RAISE THE BAR was the one to impress finishing off strongly for third in the second heat.
