TRIAL POINTERS
CANTERBURY December 2: Got the feeling Extreme Choice PARADOXIUM is going to be a player in some good 2YO races. He's now won two trials since his debut fourth in the Breeders Plate and the style of his 895m heat win (55.21; 35.35) to sit outside the leader and respond like a good horse to run clear at the finish augers well for his future. Magic Millions winner O' OLE came from last with the advantage of a rails run to win the 3YO open heat over 895m (55.04; 34.85). Harry Angel 4YO KING OF DRAGONS has one win from seven starts but his trial form has always been good and his impressive win in the fastest 900m heat (53.12; 33.69) has him primed to improve his record this season. He's fast – he led this trial by six lengths and coasted home by almost four – and will be well placed in the right class up to 1200m. CINSAULT was a maiden winner in July in her ninth and final start for James Cummings – after eight minor placings! She's ready to resume after two trials for her new trainer Michael Freedman, showing sharp form to work home over the top of the fast leader in a strong open heat over 900m (54.23; 34.29). Other Michael Freedman-trained Godolphin runners to make a good impression included MANUKAU, responsible for excellent late work to finish fourth in his open heat over 890m (53.,99; 34.84. Numerous maidens took the eye including heat winners RASKOL and FIREPOP.
RANDWICK November 21: Maidens to take the eye included the Godolphin's MANUKAU having his first trial for his new trainer Michael Freedman. The two 2Y0 trials over 737m saw the colt PARADOXIUM run the quickest time in his heat (42.83; 32.91) in his first appearance since his fourth in the Breeders Plate at the start of the season.
HAWKESBURY November 17: Asian agents will be hot on the tail of unraced Anders gelding CONTRADICTION after he sped over 800m in the quickest time of the session (45.01; 31.04) to win his heat by almost nine lengths. He had not been seen since an impressive trial win in February and the fact that no other 800m heat winner went under 46 seconds or 32 seconds for the last 600m speaks volumes for his natural speed. Other maidens to take the eye in the 800m heats included ALL STAR, SEVEN DAYS and PERFORMANCE.
ROSEHILL April 11: Russian Revolution filly RASKOL was a standout in the early 2YO trials, winning her 1030m heat in fast time 64.15; 36.40) in the style of a coming winner. She has improved in each of her three trials and this effort showed she is ready as she jumped in front before Tom Sherry let a fast runner speed to a five lengths lead after 200m. She easily cut back the margin from the turn, surging away for a strong win.
