The Run To The Rose has presented Chris Waller with a feeling many other trainers might experience when tackling his army in Sydney's other feature races.

The Hall of Fame horseman dominates the recent honour roll of a swag of Sydney features, with Saturday's feature one notable exception.

Waller knows what it feels like to win the $300,000 Group 2, a feat he achieved in 2017 with Lean Mean Machine, but the Run To The Rose has been owned by James Cummings, who has won the race six times including the past four with horses carrying the Godolphin blue.

Cummings will not be winning this year's Run To The Rose, given he is on a training hiatus after stepping away from the Godolphin head trainer role, and Waller is hoping to win it with a horse who started his career with Cummings. – Beiwacht.

The colt ran third in the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) at his first start for Waller and the master trainer is excited about seeing what he produces on Saturday.

"(He was) awesome first-up, didn't get a lot of luck over the 1100 metre distance. He settled well (and) Adam Hyeronimus retains the ride," Waller said.

"He gets his chance to show us on Saturday whether he's going to settle to get the Golden Rose distance (1400m) or whether he's an out-and-out sprinter.

"Obviously he's already a Group 2 winner, he looks like he's come back well. It's a lovely race for him."

Beiwacht is one of two Godolphin horses formerly trained by Cummings who is a chance to provide Godolphin boss Sheikh Mohammed with an 11th win in the race.

Ciaron Maher is now in charge of Golden Slipper placegetter Tempted, who is out to join the Cummings-trained In Secret as the lone filly on the Run To The Rose honour roll.

There will be an extra element of satisfaction within the Godolphin team if Beiwacht can win the 1200-metre event.

He is a son of Bivouac, who won the 2019 Run To The Rose en route to Group 1 success in the Golden Rose.

Beiwacht is a member of Bivouac's first crop of foals and became his first Australian Group winner when he won this year's Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes.

Bivouac is among seven Run To The Rose winners who have stood at stud under Sheikh Mohammed's Darley banner.

Traffic Warden, Cylinder and Anamoe are at varying stages of their fledgling stallion careers, but are yet to have progeny to the racetrack, while Astern, Exosphere and Denman all produced Group 1 winners while standing at Darley.

Pierro, Smart Missile and Hallowed Crown, who was Cummings' first winner of the Run To The Rose, are other winners of the race that was no inaugurated until 2003 who have produced Group 1 winners at stud.
