A look into the family tree of one of Saturday’s Group 1 winners at Caulfield.
Transatlantic won't be joining Saturday's Caulfield Guineas winner Autumn Boy in the breeding barn when his racing career is over, but he achieved something he was seemingly destined for from the time he was born.
The Tony Gollan-trained five-year-old, who was gelded at the end of his three-year-old year, emulated both of his parents as Group 1 winners when he won Saturday's Toorak Handicap (1600m) at Caulfield.
He became the 25th individual Group 1 winner for legendary stallion Arrowfield Stud stallion Snitzel, who died earlier this year, when he held on to score a narrow win over Evaporate in the 1600-metre handicap.
His dam is Gust Of Wind, the mare who is most famous for being the last horse to defeat to Winx in a race, something she achieved in the 2015 ATC Australian Oaks (2400m).
Transatlantic, a $360,000 Inglis Easter yearling, is one of three to race, all of whom have won, from the daughter of Darci Brahma, who also has a two-year-old colt by Stay Inside and a yearling filly by Dundeel.
The Stay Inside colt, who sold for $220,000 at this year's Inglis Easter Sale, will be offered by Hannover Lodge at this Thursday's Inglis Ready2Race Sale in Sydney.
"He actually had a foot abscess which set him back four-to-six weeks so he was going into his breeze off only a five-week prep,'' the colt's buyer's agent James Mitchell said.
"He's got a lovely nature, he's so easy to do anything with and his breeze time (11.94) isn't at all reflective of his ability, it was simply that off such a short prep we wanted to show his beautiful action rather than worry about his time as much.
"He was born and raised at Segenhoe and has been prepped by Nathan Doyle for Thursday's sale and he's going to make a beautiful late two-year-old, three-year and even older horse, like his half-brother who is now a Group 1 winner as a five-year-old."
Transatlantic was one of two geldings to win Group 1s at Caulfield on Saturday with Globe, a son of Iffraaj, taking out the 2000m The Might And Power.
The day's main event, the $3 million Caulfield Guineas (1600m), was won by Autumn Boy, who became the first Group 1-winning son for his sire, former Caulfield Guineas winner The Autumn Sun, who also has four Group 1-winning daughters.
