Trentham Picks - Friday, 14 June

Trentham Race 1
1 Pokuru Gold

Hard to knock unbeaten form especially when the son of Darci Brahma is two from two on Heavy tracks. He has tactical speed so should land in the right spot and as long as he handles the Trentham heavy, he should be very hard to beat. Nice enough race behind with some very talented types for Allan Sharrock so he is a little short in the market for me, but he looks capable of heading over the ditch at some stage.
Selections: 1-5-3-4

Trentham Race 2
9 Faustian Bargain

Really liked her return to the races when second here on a Heavy track in late May. She looks a better mare this time in, she has handled tough tracks in the past, and the experience fresh will help today. Her draw will more than likely be an advantage and I'd expect her to go very close at a great each way quote. Bruno looks a talented type and capable of winning but just a little unknown on a Heavy track, however, they do look a decent same race multi to me.
Selections: 9-1-4-11

Trentham Race 3
7 Who's Complainin

Both runs back have been good enough to suggest that he should be close to peaking on Saturday. He's drawn the ace, which is a slight worry, but being a leader, with a three-kilo claimer on, I don't expect him to get stuck down on the inside. This feloow is well capable and he has a strong chance of leading this the whole way.
Selections: 7-2-8-4

Trentham Race 4
8 Sotirio

Really tough race to analyse, but I was impressed with this horse's return to the races at Trentham. He was a horse that won his debut on a tough track at Awapuni and was unlucky a couple of times before his form last preparation really tapered off. He has the right weight and the right draw. If he takes natural improvement from his fresh up run, he should make his presence felt.
Selections: 8-4-2-7

Trentham Race 5
5 Pride Of Aspen

Chased home Prince Alby here last time despite having to come through on the Inferior ground down towards the inside. There is a two kilo difference here which should be enough for her to turn the tables, especially with Prince Alby drawn the inside, so he will have to go back and around them. If Aljay is at his best, he has all the class to be winning this race and I'd expect better from Semper Magico over ground on a much wetter track.
Selections: 5-2-1-4

Trentham Race 6
6 Lurid

I am going again from last Saturday when I thought he would be an improver and the race never really went to plan. He jumped away well but three or four riders kicked up underneath him when he was trying for the lead, and he was posted wide for the entire race. I actually thought he did a decent job to finish as close as he did. This race is right in his wheelhouse. It's on a wet track over ground and he should be able to lead. He looks decent each way at the price.
Selections: 6-1-2-9

Trentham Race 7
3 Chajaba

He had a great preparation last time in and was just beaten by Justaskme in the Opunake Cup, which is more than likely a target again this season. Loved his trial recently and he is a toff in wet track conditions and is a winner fresh up. His condition for 1300m is a fair query and may give in the last 100 metres, but I'm happy to have a little each way. Old Town Road and Tavis Court are a couple of our best winter sprinters who should make their presence felt.
Selections: 3-1-2-4

Trentham Race 8
9 Jestin Case

I had to take a double look at the price they posted on this mare. I personally marked her favorite, and, with the boost, she is $10, which is the best value on the day. Last start she was great behind The Ugly Sister, who is a good winter open horse and beat home Princess Elly, who should have won at Ōtaki. She won a 1600m in 1.44 at Whanganui, so she should handle the track conditions and is drawn perfectly. The track will be a mess by the end of the day, but I'm happy to take the $10.
