Cambridge Picks - Tuesday, 13 August

Cambridge Synthetic Race 1
5 Blackwaterfoot

Ran very well on debut at Ruakaka, then just okay second up at Te Rapa on the Heavy10 track. Now third up and switching to the synthetic going, I'm expecting a much better effort from Blackwaterfoot. Should land handy to the speed without working hard from gate 1 under Kelly Myers.

Cambridge Synthetic Race 2
5 Toa Tuahine

She's performed very well of late without winning. Last start run for 2nd at this course/distance in R60 grade reads well for this maiden contest. Ace Lawson-Carroll's 2kg claim sees her get into this with only 54.5kg on her back, looks to get her chance to breakthrough.

Cambridge Synthetic Race 3
1 Market Place

Not a high confidence betting race, however, I thought the price around Market Place was slight overs. He drops back into R60 company, having run an okay 3rd in a R65 970m contest last start. He maps to lead this and if he doesn't cop too much pressure should be able to run out the 1300m.

Cambridge Synthetic Race 4
5 Side Eye

I thought he looked the early leader in this race, which should give Tayla Mitchell options if the likes of Monza and Dear Oh Dear wish to force the issue from wider draws. He's the runner I probably have the least question marks on, with some of these on a very short back-up from late last week, and others dropping back from 2000m. His placings two and three starts back rated well enough to be competitive here, if he can find an uncontested lead he can give a lot of cheek in front.

Cambridge Synthetic Race 5
8 Top Dollar

His 2yo form reads superior to this field, with his debut run behind I'm All In at this course/distance being a great guide for this. He possess the tactical speed to lead or settle handy to the speed, which is key over the 970m here.

Cambridge Synthetic Race 6
1 Hammer Time

The booking of Opie Bosson and it being his only ride on the day is very intriguing. Hammer Time's two efforts this time in over the 1550m have been a bit one-paced, suggesting the step up to 2000m third-up should suit. This field looks well within his reach, hard to beat.
