Whanganui Race 1
2 To Bravery Born
Te Akau have a very good record in this early season 2yo event over the past few years, with Bellatrix Star winning this race in 2023. I am being guided significantly by Opie Bosson electing to ride To Bravery Born over stablemate, Tagalomu, with the latter yet to be seen publicly. To Bravery Born was taking good ground off Toretto when they met at their sole trial. Not a high confidence betting race.
Whanganui Race 2
1 Shawshank
On the quick back-up from Sunday where he was a very unlucky 5th with rider, Lily Sutherland, dropping the whip early in the straight. His trials would suggest that a Heavy10 track won't bother him, while his recent race fitness should aid him in handling the testing conditions also. Looks a good chance in a very even maiden contest.
Whanganui Race 3
7 Niagara Sky
She was too bad to be true last start, where she never looked to travel back and in between runners. Her debut maiden victory prior rated very well, whilst she also looked to handle the Heavy10 conditions with ease. 4kg claimer, Rihaan Goyaram reunites with Niagara Sky for this. If she runs up to that debut win, she'll give a sight at odds.
Whanganui Race 4
8 Saint Bathans
Classy galloper on his day who looks well placed just above the minimum here. While he is first-up on a Heavy10 track, he does have the benefit of two very bold trial performances under his belt. 1200m may be short of his best, however, the Heavy conditions will make slightly more enduring than a typical 1200m contest.
Whanganui Race 5
5 He's Lucid
He looks the value runner in the Wanganui Guineas for mine. He's a big scopey type who looks to handle the Heavy going. His debut effort behind Belardi in the Castletwon was very good, where he stuck to his guns well in the inferior going. I think the booking of ex-Aussie hoop, Matt Cartwright, is a big tick. Happy to play him at odds.
Whanganui Race 6
8 Perfect Test
Goes very well around this circuit, having won 3 from 4 at this course/distance. Unsurprisingly, her best career figures have all also come over the mile here at Wanganui. She maps to settle just forward of midfield from the middle draw and should get every chance to win another here.
Whanganui Race 7
5 Crouch
Looks well suited returning to the Central Districts, after running an okay 4th in the North at Te Rapa last start. Prior to that, he was very impressive winning at Hawera on a testing Heavy10 track. Should get similar conditions here come this point of the day.
Whanganui Race 8
5 Jerricoop
I've landed on the outsider of the field in the form of Jerricoop. He's recently shifted to the Harvey Wilson stable and I thought he trialled well in his first public outing for the new stable. Amber Riddell's 4kg claim sees him get into this with only 53.5kg on his back. Looks over the odds for mine.
Whanganui Race 9
1 Malfurion
Last sighted at the races in December, where he was racing against much stronger company than this. While he is first-up, he has had the benefit of two searching hit outs at the trials this month on Heavy10 tracks. Stable typically has them ready to go first-up, expect he can go well here.
