Race 1
9 Red Star Bella

Red Star Bella's debut was one to forget as she copped significant interference shortly after the start. Her trials leading into her debut had enough merit to suggest she would be competitive in a moderate maiden field, which is what she looks to find here. If she cops a Heavy track, she looks over the odds for mine.

Race 2
1 Full Moon Fever

Full Moon Fever has performed very well in his first two runs since heading south. While the wide draw (13) is a concern, he does have the tactical early speed to cross and find a handy position. A repeat effort of either run this time in would see him hard to beat in this if he handles the conditions.

Race 3
5 Annia Aurelia

Annia Aurelia resumes here off the back of a nice trial behind subsequent race winner, Times Ticking. She's drawn to settle close the speed without having to do too much early work. If she's able to replicate her winning performance from Ashburton when most recently first-up from a lay-off, she would take plenty of beating in this.

Race 4
1 Natural Momentum

Open race and a low confidence betting race where I thought Natural Momentum would be better suited than most to the track becoming Heavy. Expect to see him roll forward and give a sight under 4kg claimer Teddy Ladouceur.

Race 5
1 Delmonico

Delmonico was massive in defeat last start behind progressive type, Retail Therapy, having been caught wide and working throughout and fighting on doggedly to the line. A repeat effort would take some beating in this field should he get better luck in running this time.

Race 6
4 Roca Mile
Tip of The Day

Roca Mile ran well for 3rd at Riccarton on Saturday and is now on the quick back-up for this contest. The key to his chances is the blinkers now being applied, as he trialled up impressively prior to his last start in blinkers yet they weren't applied raceday. Where he gets to in the run is a question mark, should he get some luck from the wide gate I expect him to be hard to beat here.

Race 7
7 Ice Empress

First run in the South Island had enough merit to suggest a win wasn't far away for this mare. Many of her better performances in the North Island came on rain-effected tracks which she will get here. With natural improvement from her first-up effort she should go close in what looks a very moderate maiden contest.

Race 8
3 Chapinteel

Chapinteel was very unlucky copping interference at multiple stages in her resuming run and still managed to find the line well afterwards. While she had looked very plain at the trials leading into her first-up run it is worth noting that she was backed heavily on raceday. The question mark for mine is the significant jump up to 2200m second-up, however, the way she raced first-up suggests further may suit.
