New Plymouth Race 1
8 Carajillo

Carajillo bounced back with a strong performance to finish 3rd at Hawera last start, having pulled up with multiple excuses after her resuming run. I thought her run for 3rd last start had plenty of merit, given she got back initially off a moderate tempo before having to sustain a sprint when the leaders looked to ramp up the speed just prior to the turn. She's drawn a nice middle gate (6) for this and Sam Weatherley now jumps aboard third-up. This race doesn't look any harder than last start, expect her to go close with even luck in running.

New Plymouth Race 2
4 Confetti

Confetti's last start effort for 4th was a pass mark given the circumstances, where she looked a touch flat-footed – likely due to the Heavy conditions and extremely fast tempo of the race. She now gets back on top of the ground and the race almost certainly won't be run as quickly as what she experienced last start. Looks a much more favourable setup for her this time around.

New Plymouth Race 3
11 Derryman

Derryman is a locally trained debutant from the Allan Sharrock barn who has trialled well leading into his first start. Expect him to settle midfield on the fence from the inside gate in a race that maps to be run at a genuine tempo throughout.

New Plymouth Race 4
12 Latrelle

Latrelle resumes here after being put away following an emphatic win in May. Her trial earlier this month was quiet yet really caught the eye late. This race looks to have an abundance of early tempo engaged which should suit Latrelle who will likely be landing middle of the pack from the low draw (4). I think she has above average ability and can run well first-up here.

New Plymouth Race 5
2 Liquid Fire

I was with Liquid Fire at Tauranga last start where he drifted significantly in the market on the day and ran accordingly. He did have some excuses that day and wasn't suited by the muddling tempo of the race which saw him race keenly as a consequence. I thought they might roll forward with him here given Mahoe looks to give him a great cart across the field if they opt to be positive early. I think an improved performance can be expected.

New Plymouth Race 6
1 Carignan

Carignan comes into this off the back of a solid effort in this grade last start at Taupo. This field doesn't look any stronger and any rain arriving later in the day would only aid his chances. Leading chance in what looks a very moderate race on paper.

New Plymouth Race 7
10 Myakkabelle
Tip of The Day

Myakkabelle's last start win rated well and suggested she could go on with it beyond maiden company. She handles rain-effected going, which may be what she gets underfoot come this point of the day if the expected rain arrives. Best bet.

New Plymouth Race 8
5 Hakata Bay

5 Hakata Bay: On the off chance this track becomes Heavy and gets very testing come the latter stages of the day, Hakata Bay looks to be one who would be suited. This 4yo son of Mongolian Khan ran well on debut, where he was seen doing his best work late in the piece, suggesting an additional 200m would suit.
