Pukekohe Race 1
5 Rochmie Bay
Tip of The Day
Rochmie Bay resumed with a decent effort in stronger company at Ellerslie last start. He got back that day and his closing splits from the 600 to home couldn't have been much better – 11.35s, 11.07s, 11.64s. Warren Kennedy rode that day and rides again here which is a great lead. Looks well suited dropping in grade and stepping up to 1200m second-up here.
Pukekohe Race 2
1 Because
Not a high confidence betting race being a moderate R60 stayers contest. Because has been running well enough of late in R65 company to be more than competitive now down in R60 company. Michael McNab jumps aboard which is a big tick, while he also maps to land just behind the pace from the low draw (3).
Pukekohe Race 3
9 Reggae Queen
Reggae Queen didn't flatter in her sole career start on a Heavy8 at Te Rapa, where she worked hard throughout and consequently dropped out sharply. She's trialled well since at Te Aroha, where she found the line strongly when ridden from behind. From the inside gate here, she will likely be trailing or three-back the fence, which should give her every chance to finish the race off. Happy to be with her on an each way basis at the price.
Pukekohe Race 4
5 Tycoon Prince
Tycoon Prince weakened last start in a race which was simply run too hard and he was at the front end doing plenty of early work. From the middle gate (8), I expect he will roll forward again, although I thought he could get a good sit behind the likes of Horrie if it were to roll forward from its wide draw. Tycoon Prince has yet to replicate his trial form on raceday, willing to speculate that he can here at the price.
Pukekohe Race 5
6 Rocky Marciano
Rocky Marciano has come through much stronger races than many of his opposition here. The step up from 1500m to 2100m is the only query I have with him, however, he is bred to get over further with his dam being a multiple Gr.2 winner over 2000m. He maps to get a nice run from the low gate (4) and with even luck in running he will be very hard to beat if he sees out the trip.
Pukekohe Race 6
19 Smokotime
Smokotime is on debut here and trialled up very well at Te Aroha last month, where he was given a strong hit-out from the front end and scored nicely. He is drawn wide for his debut, however, I don't think that will be a negative for him. He will get plenty of clear air early and can roll forward with Proudtobehere drawn underneath.
Pukekohe Race 7
1 Poetic Justice
Poetic Justice resumes here with two nice enough trials under his belt to ready him for this first-up run. Michael McNab rides from a low gate (2), where he looks to get a key map advantage over many others at the top of the market.
Pukekohe Race 8
4 Endean Affair
Endean Affair found the line well last start over 1400m at Ellerslie and really only looked to be getting into her work late in the piece. The step up to 1600m and drop back to R60 company third-up should suit, while Ngakau Hailey's 3kg claim will see her carry only 55kg for this. Looks the one they have to beat.
Pukekohe Race 9
2 Market Square
Market Square's first two runs back this campaign have both had plenty of merit. Now 3rd up and back on a firmer deck, Market Square looks well placed to be breaking his maiden. The big wide Pukekohe straight should suit and there looks to be some early speed drawn out wide which should aid him in getting over the top late.
Pukekohe Race 10
11 Ortem Legacy
Ortem Legacy ran well at Ellerslie last start, after doing some work in the early part of the race from a wide barrier. She now gets the blinkers on for this and looks to get a good run behind what looks a strong early tempo. Not a high confidence betting race but will be siding with Ortem Legacy at odds.
