Tauherenikau Picks - Saturday, 9 November

Tauherenikau Race 1
9 Vitaci

Very open race and I thought the favourites were all well found in the market. Vitaci hasn't shown much on raceday, however, she has been respected by the market against what would likely be stronger opposition than this. She has been given a very quiet time at the trials since and has travelled well within herself. Happy to speculate on her at the price.

Tauherenikau Race 2
2 Carsolio

Carsolio is a 2yo son of Bivouac who put a gap on his rivals in his latest trial which he won in good time. Michael McNab rides on debut and the stable have a great record with their 2yo's. Hard to say the $1.22 at publish is value but also hard to see any of these beating him in this.

Tauherenikau Race 3
8 Testing

Testing is a 4yo mare on debut for Roydon Bergerson who has trialled up well for her first raceday start. Gate one and Michael McNab riding are both big ticks for her first start. She showed good early speed in her trials and can take advantage of the great draw in this.

Tauherenikau Race 4
4 Idyllic

Idyllic is a lightly tried mare who resumes here off the back of two recent trial wins. She possesses a high cruising speed, which makes her a force to be reckoned with over the 1000m journey. Kate Hercock will no doubt have her on the front end from the low draw (2), should prove hard to catch.

Tauherenikau Race 5
3 Danjuro

Danjuro ran well first-up at Waverley, where he arguably wins if he'd straightened up in the home running. Senior jockey, Jonathan Riddell now rides, which may aid in the steering issues with him. Does have to handle the rise from R60 to R65 company but this isn't a strong R65 contest by any stretch.

Tauherenikau Race 6
7 Princess Elly

I was with Princess Elly last start where she only battled home at Otaki after doing very little work in the run. In hindsight, she typically goes much better second-up than she does resuming so I'm willing to give her another chance in this. She carries only 51kg after Toni Davies claim and will be rattling home late if she's anywhere near her best.

Tauherenikau Race 7
1 Linara
Tip of The Day

Linara is resuming in this now under the care of Shaun Fannin and Hazel Schofer. He trialled up like a rocket on a Soft5 at Waipukurau recently, looking much more comfortable on top of the ground than the Heavy track he struck last campaign. I expect to see him handy to the speed from the low draw (3) and prove awfully hard to beat.

Tauherenikau Race 8
9 Psyclone

Psyclone is 3rd up for this, having disappointed at Te Rapa last start after a nice first-up run at Hastings. John Bary has been tinkering with her gear this time in and he's elected to now revert back to what worked for her as a 3yo. She'll get back off what looks a very strong tempo and look for her to be flooding home over the concluding stages.
