6 Dash Dosh
After a couple of months away from the track, having raced the talented Habibti Pat at her last start, two-year-old filly Dash Dosh looks a wonderful chance here today in a fresh state. Stepped out at the trials at Addington last week and delivered an impressive victory and was really asked to stretch out over the final stages. Should be primed to start punters on the right foot for the day.

6 Lochdarragh
Expecting the big roomy Ashburton track to play into the hands of the free-rolling Lochdarragh. Heavily backed in the last two performances and has run well but perhaps not savaged the line like you'd expect. Might look to take bad luck out of the equation here and get them rolling form the outset. Good each way value on offer if he does find the top.

5 Valyrian
An impressive trial performance last week at Addington signalled that talented trotter Valyrian was ready to resume from a brief spell in style here. Excellent through the line in that trial run and looks to have strengthened right up. Wide open field but has a good draw and should really be winning.

6 Ari On Safari
Big run fresh up from Ari On Safari at Oamaru last week. Was savaged early by another runner and then beaten by the same horse up the lane but fought resolutely to go down fighting. Might get the top and the lead a little easier here and has trialled brilliantly on the Ashburton track so expecting a really bold performance in this line up.

1 The Bettor Major
After finding a rich vein of form in the past six weeks, The Bettor Major lands in a very winnable race here today and lobs the ace draw to only further enhance the chances. Can be a little enigmatic at times, but touch wood has been solid as a rock recently. Good draw to use and should be able to sprint past them late.

14 Living The Moment
Another horse who should relish the wide open spaces of Ashburton is Living The Moment. Looked likely to win at Rangiora last week but just got a little rank in the gait late and wasn't able to be driven out. Bit of room to wind up here and if joining in at the top of the straight will be hard to stop.

13 Miki B
Tip of The Day
Couldn't have asked for anything better out of a debut performance than what we got from Miki B. Chased home a very smart one in The Con Artist and looked super impressive doing it too. Unsighted at the races since then but the astute stable behind him will have all the boxes ticked for a strong resumption.

13 Sweet Tartan
Perhaps the most over the odds runner of the day here is Sweet Tartan. Superb run first up for a new barn at Kaikoura when beaten by some nice types. Did a bit of work then too, but shouldn't have to carry any extra workload here other than winding up late. Good enough to get over the top of them too at a huge price.

19 Markthewarrior
In terms of pure ability, not many in this race would match Markthewarrior in that department. Not much has gone right in the return to the track this time in though, especially last time. Moves to the unruly and should have a bit of room to work with. Safe beginning and he's well in play here at a big price.

14 Buddha
Took a few more starts than most would have predicted to break maiden status, but Buddha was an excellent winner here last month. Beat a couple of handy performers too and although drawn up on the second row here might have the speed to get past most, if not all up the straight here and deliver.

4 Watching Brief
There was no shame in the defeat behind Delightful Dreams at Kaikoura for Watching Brief last time out. She was still excellent after doing some strong mid-race work to find the front. Should be improved with that run under the belt too and wouldn't be the worst chance in this if things pan out well for her early.

7 Penny Weight
One for the locals here. The most recent performances of Penny Weight have been excellent and was a strong winner on this track when last produced here. Not a deep field, plenty of chances and if able to wind up at the right time can certainly play a major role.
