Trentham Race 1
5 Too Sweet
Tip of The Day
Too Sweet looks awfully hard to beat to kick off proceedings at Trentham. She won well last start on Heavy10 here over 900m, with 2nd placegetter Almakeitgood winning since. Too Sweet trialled up most impressively on top of the ground since her debut win and ran the fastest 850m trial of the day. Luke Currie riding will only aid her chances, extremely hard to beat.
Trentham Race 2
5 Discovery Bay
Discovery Bay resumes here having his first start since May. He comes into this with one trial under his belt, where he surged through the line after getting clear air late in the piece. He should get a good smother mid-pack from the handy draw (5), where he can be saved for one run at them late in the piece down the long Trentham straight.
Trentham Race 3
5 Our Allie Be
5 Our Allie Be couldn't have been much more impressive winning on debut at Te Aroha, where she came from last and produced the fastest last 200m of the meeting to win. The way she got home over 1150m on debut suggests the step up to 1400m here at the big roomy Trentham track will be right up her alley. Looks hard to beat if she can be saved for one run at them late.
Trentham Race 4
1 The Big Picture
The Big Picture was good last start at Whanganui, in a race where most struggled to make up any ground on the leaders. He now gets Opie Bosson on and from the wider draw he should get plenty of room to let rip down centre track.
Trentham Race 5
5 Gee Cee
Very tricky and open race for mine, where I've landed on the clear outsider at publish in Gee Cee. I thought from the low draw (2) he could position handy to the speed in a race that looks devoid of any tempo. He should appreciate getting back on top of the ground here and I thought he could run a race at odds if he shows anything close to his best.
Trentham Race 6
2 The Prophet
The Prophet has been a victim of circumstances more than anything at each of his three runs this time in. First-up, he never really got into clear air, then his subsequent two starts he drew extremely wide gates forcing him to go back to last on each occasion. Now drawn a more favourable barrier (6), I expect Sam Weatherley will have him settling much closer in the run. With even luck in running from there, he looks the one they have to beat.
Trentham Race 7
4 Trav
Trav ran well in the Whanganui Cup last week, where despite being poorly placed at the weights that day, he still finished off well only beaten 2.5L. I'm really keen to be with him on the seven-day back-up in this, given he produced a career peak figure when winning on a 10-day back-up earlier this year. Dropping back to R75 company, he now also carries his true weight and should be hard to beat.
Trentham Race 8
11 La Crique
La Crique was simply too classy for her rivals last start. After looking beat at the 200m, she lifted and found another gear late to get up in the shadows. While the outside gate (13) could make things tricky, Michael McNab riding somewhat negates that barrier. She will only be much more effective at a mile here and with some luck from the gate I think she will just be winning again.
Trentham Race 9
1 Crunchie Boy
Crunchie Boy ran an honest race for 2nd behind The Scunner at Riccarton, where he was practically a sitting duck being left in front down the long Riccarton straight. He maps to lead or sit outside leader in a moderately run race here, with the only other key pace influence looking to be Scotch Bonnet, who is drawn directly underneath him. Opie Bosson now jumps aboard and he could prove very hard to catch out in front.
Trentham Race 10
4 Platinum Attack
Platinum Attack was just okay down at Riccarton during NZ Cup Week, however, he was probably unsuited by the easing track conditions there last time. Now back closer to home at a track he is proven at and a track that will be much firmer than what he struck last start, I wouldn't be surprised to see an improved run out of Platinum Attack.
