MI AMIGO winning the CELEBRATING 150 YEARS OF RACING IN TAURANGA
MI AMIGO winning the CELEBRATING 150 YEARS OF RACING IN TAURANGA Picture: Race Images South

Tauranga Race 1
3 Glorafilia

Glorafilia ran well at Rotorua first-up over 1230m. She now steps up to 1200m and now getting the sting out of the ground here should be a big assist to her. She finds what looks to be a very winnable R60 contest and I expect her to be hard to beat.

Tauranga Race 2
4 Zanzibar

Zanzibar gets a lot in his favour here to suggest her can run a much improved race. Opie Bosson now jumps aboard from the inside gate and he gets the blinkers on for the first time. Not a high confidence betting race but I didn't think there was much separating the first six or seven in the market.

Tauranga Race 3
12 Wren

Wren was too bad to be true last start. Prior to that she blew the start by 5L and somehow managed to storm home and get the win. She maps to get back in this from the wide gate (15) and there looks to be enough tempo to bring the backmarkers into contention. If you can forgive her last start flop, she looks over the odds in this.

Tauranga Race 4
1 Mad Max
Tip of The Day

Mad Max simply should have won at Te Aroha last start but got too far back over the 1150m trip. He closing sectionals were brilliant that day, which backed up what visually looked to be an enormous effort. Now getting to 1200m with Opie Bosson jumping aboard, he looks to get his chance to break maidens here.

Tauranga Race 5
3 Arkadus

Arkadus resumes here having last been sighted finishing on well at Ellerslie over 2100m. While 1600m is likely short of his ideal trip, his latest trial suggested he could be forward enough to run a race in a fresh state here. He'll carry just 55.5kg after Rihaan Goyaram's claim and I thought he looked as good as any in this field.

Tauranga Race 6
11 Astoria Brooke

Astoria Brooke ran very well at Otaki last start, closing off nicely in a race dominated by those who settled in the first half of the field. She couldn't have been much better sectionally that day and the way she closed off suggests the step up to 1400m is going to suit. The main concern is where she gets to in the run from the outside gate, however, Craig Grylls can sum things up depending on how she jumps.

Tauranga Race 7
14 Transaction

Transaction held on bravely to secure her maiden victory at Te Aroha last start. That win rated well enough to suggest she may not have to improve much, if at all, to be winning a R65 contest of this quality. She gets a much more favourable draw to work with here and should be able to position handy to the speed without working nearly as hard as last start.
