Matamata Race 1
7 Tardelli

Tardelli is first-up in NZ since relocating from the John O'Shea/Tom Charlton stable in Sydney. His 2yo form from Sydney is elite, having only finished 3.8L off Switzerland, who has subsequently won the G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes as a 3yo. Tardelli trialled up well at Pukekohe under a tight hold, where he didn't have much clear galloping room. Michael McNab rides from a middle gate (6) for his NZ debut. There's a lot to like about this colt.

Matamata Race 2
9 Kananaskis

Kananaskis is a 3yo Vadamos filly on debut for Stephen Autridge. She did a fair amount of work when caught wide in her latest trial and still had the audacity to prick the ears late whilst running the fastest time of the five 1000m trials that day. She gets the inside gate to work with for her debut and should be able to maintain a position not far from the speed throughout.

Matamata Race 3
1 Ever Charm

Ever Charm is resuming here having last been sighted in July running 2nd on a Heavy10 at Te Rapa. His recent trial was excellent, where he got back and came home strongly between runners without being asked to run a step by Masa Hashizume. The wide gate (10) will see him getting back in the field, however, there looks to be enough pressure to set it up for him.

Matamata Race 4
9 Deep Water Bay

Deep Water Bay was very good on debut at Rotorua after a slow getaway potentially cost him the win that day. Michael McNab sticks in the saddle from a more favourable draw (5). If he can jump cleaner and position closer to the speed, he should take plenty of beating.

Matamata Race 5
1 Bourbon Proof

Bourbon Proof has been racing against better company his past couple of starts at Ellerslie. The way he has been getting home over 1400m and 1500m suggests the step up to a mile should suit. Michael McNab rides from the inside gate, which should see him given every chance to breakthrough for his maiden victory.

Matamata Race 6
12 Hakkinen

Hakkinen is a maiden competing against race winners in this R60 1600m contest. His debut 2nd at Te Aroha had plenty of merit and rated better than what many, if not all, of his opponents recent runs. He carries only 54.5kg with Wiremu Pinn taking the steer from a middle gate (7). Wouldn't have to improve much, if at all, to be winning this.

Matamata Race 7
6 Mary Shan
Tip of The Day

Mary Shan was brilliant behind La Crique and co. in the Gr.2 Auckland Thoroughbred Breeders' Stakes last start, reeling off some strong late splits to only be beaten 1.8L. She now steps up to 1600m third-up, with Masa Hashizume riding from a low draw (3) and only 53kg on her back. Quality mare who will be awfully hard to beat.

Matamata Race 8
8 Cheaha

Cheaha was an impressive winner at Rotorua on debut and looked to still have more under the bonnet through the line. The step up from 1230m to 1400m second-up looks a logical and ideal progression for him. Warren Kennedy staying aboard from a middle draw (7) should see him hard to beat again here.
