Taupō Race 1
5 Gippsy God
Gippsy God (#5) returned with a solid effort for 4th at Te Rapa. A much kinder draw this time may allow him to settle closer in the run, and with natural improvement from the first-up outing, he looks set to feature in the finish.
Taupō Race 2
13 Moonbeams
Moonbeams (#13) is a 3yo Ace High filly on debut for Andrew Forsman. Her sole public trial caught the eye, as she went to the line under restraint, but looked to have plenty under the bonnet. With Matt Cartwright booked and a handy barrier to work with, she appeals as one worth speculating on.
Taupō Race 3
5 Born To Be Royal
Born To Be Royal (#5) resumes as a 3yo after showing promise in her juvenile season. Two quiet trials have her ready enough for this, and she is likely on a path to the 1000 Guineas later in the spring. From the middle draw under Opie Bosson, expect her to get back of midfield and look to go through her gears late.
Taupō Race 4
8 Solid Gold
Solid Gold (#8) is a 3yo Savabeel filly making her debut for the James/Wellwood team. Her most recent trial was excellent, where she lengthened stylishly late to score. With George Rooke aboard and a soft draw, she looks well placed to make a winning start to her career.
Taupō Race 5
11 King's English
King's English (#11) is a beautifully bred Snitzel colt out of the dual Australian Group 1 winner English. His trials this prep have been sharp, hitting the line strongly in both. With Opie Bosson in the saddle, a bold debut is expected.
Taupō Race 6
10 Marokopa Falls
Marokopa Falls (#10) showed above average talent when winning on debut as a 2yo but couldn't replicate that at her next few runs. A sound recent trial suggests she's back in good order, and with just 52kg on her back from a low draw, she maps to trail the speed and get every chance fresh.
Taupō Race 7
6 Miss Understood
TIP OF THE DAY
Open Race time: 11:39 pm, Today
Miss Understood (#6) finds a very winnable assignment after two runs on Heavy10 tracks this prep. The return to firmer footing doesn't look to be a negative and she finds herself up against many looking for further than 1400m. With Kelly Myers aboard, expect her to be sent forward from the wide draw. She looks the one to beat.
Taupō Race 8
11 Delorean
Delorean (#11) was game in defeat running 2nd at Ruakaka last start after being caught wide on a strong tempo. Expect Tayla Mitchell to push forward again here, and if able to dictate from the front, she could be hard to get past. A strong each way chance.
