Trentham Race 1
1 Saltburn
Saltburn (#1) has looked good in his three starts on NZ soil, with his last run for 5th coming in a strong MAAT race at Ellerslie against race winners. He looks well suited back in maiden company and from the low draw he should take up a forward position. With in-form apprentice Liam Kauri claiming 3kg, he should take some beating.
Trentham Race 2
5 Wingman
Wingman (#5) resumes, having last been sighted finishing 2nd back in April. He'll appreciate it if the track comes up on the firmer side of the Soft range. His recent trial win was excellent and suggests he is forward enough. Happy to be with him at the price over the favourite.
Trentham Race 3
2 Just Charlie
TIP OF THE DAY
Just Charlie (#2) was set an enormous task last start and weakened late as a result. He has trialled nicely since and will appreciate stepping up to 2100m here. Expecting a much improved run under Tina Comignaghi as he works towards the NZ Cup in November.
Trentham Race 4
14 Sierra Leone
Sierra Leone (#14) was a very well-performed 2yo despite not breaking her maiden. She resumes here against the older horses and has had the benefit of a quiet trial. From the low draw, she maps to settle just off the leaders and can run a bold race fresh.
Trentham Race 5
7 Ziggy Stardust
Ziggy Stardust (#7) resumes as a 4yo and has trialled well enough in preparation for this. She maps to get a good cart across the field from Lucullan early and take up a handy position. A bold run fresh wouldn't surprise.
Trentham Race 6
1 Marotiri Molly
Marotiri Molly (#1) is a lightly tried mare who came a long way last season. She resumes off a bold trial win earlier this month. The weight is the concern, but Liam Kauri's 3kg claim helps. Expect her to be handy to the speed and give a good account fresh.
Trentham Race 7
4 Ears Back
Ears Back (#4) weakened late after leading first-up at Riccarton. She should be improved for the outing and maps to lead easily here. If Mereana Hudson can dictate from the front, she could prove hard to run down.
Trentham Race 8
11 Monologue
Monologue (#11) is lightly raced, having just her sixth start here. She was brave first-up on a Heavy10 and will be improved for the hit-out. A better surface helps, and the wide draw may be an advantage at this stage of the day. Expect her to get back and be rushing home late.
