Tauranga Race 1
1 Intoxicated
TIP OF THE DAY
Intoxicated (#1) was very good first-up at Ellerslie, where he looked home before being pipped on the line. The wide draw isn't ideal, but with a long run into the first bend from the mile start he should be able to slot in. Opie Bosson aboard is a key positive and he looks very hard to beat in this field.
Tauranga Race 2
1 Reckoning
Reckoning (#1) ran a good race for 7th on debut at Ellerslie, where he found the line strongly from the back. He should be improved for the outing and now gets Sam Collett in the saddle from a middle draw. Shapes as the horse to beat.
Tauranga Race 3
2 Guipago
Guipago (#2) has shifted stables since his last campaign, where he didn't quite deliver on his trial form prior. He's trialled well ahead of this and while 1400m may be short of his best, he should be finding the line well under Matt Cameron.
Tauranga Race 4
9 Rising Star
Rising Star (#9) was strongly supported first-up at Te Rapa in what has already proven to be a good form race. She never got clear air that day, running into a dead end halfway down the straight. Amber Riddell takes the reins from a handy draw, and with just 53.5kg after the claim she looks a strong each way chance with better luck in running.
Tauranga Race 5
14 Kusuda Rush
Open Race time: 9:57 pm, Today
Kusuda Rush (#14) resumes as a 3yo, having run fairly in his sole start as a 2yo back in May. His latest trial suggested he's come back in good order and he looks ready to give a bold account of himself first-up.
Tauranga Race 6
6 Quill
Quill (#6) was last seen finishing 6th at Ellerslie, where he loomed into the race before peaking late over 2400m. The drop back to 2100m looks ideal, and from the low draw Masa Hashizume should be able to give him the right run in transit.
Tauranga Race 7
4 Mr Marigold
Mr Marigold (#4) didn't get all favours when finishing down the track last start at Ellerslie, but his prior efforts serve as a better guide for this. Matt Cameron takes over, which is a plus, and with a quiet run in transit he should run out the 1400m strongly.
Tauranga Race 8
1 Just Call Me Jonny
Just Call Me Jonny (#1) resumes without a trial, the same approach taken last prep when he ran well first-up. With Craig Grylls aboard and a low draw to work with, a bold fresh showing wouldn't surprise.
