Ashburton Harness Race 1
4 Chocta
A lot to like about the debut effort of 4 Chocta at Addington almost two weeks ago. Did everything right for a young trotter and ran some strong sectionals late in the piece to make up a lot of ground on the winner. Can build off that here in a smaller field and anything close to that effort should be a winning one.

2 Miki Brown
Not a fan of the Motukarara crossing on debut, 2 Miki Brown got it wrong there but the run afterwards was very good. Had trialed up beautifully on this track prior to that and if he was to step onto the speed here they'd be doing well to run him down late with his high cruising speed.

10 Clotilde Wainwright
High speed trotter 10 Clotilde Wainwright should relish the long Ashburton straight. Has a devastating turn of foot when saved up for the one run and although in a big field, she'll have plenty of time to balance up and unleash.

14 Alecto
Massive run in defeat last time out at Addington by 14 Alecto. Did a power of work and was only swamped by a couple with cold shots at them late. She's flying again and although the draw is against, expect her to be hard to beat today.

7 Marketplace
Beaten in both runs in this time, 7 Marketplace will be out to get that winning feeling back here today and can definitely do it. Doesn't have to blast across and lead, but might just do that and if he does, then he'll be staying there and looking to dash them home.

12 Meant To Be
He got a little wobbly in his action late at Addington in a fresh state but the wide open spaces of Ashburton should be a bit more to the liking of 12 Meant To Be here. Will have improved off the run as well and if he's trucking at the end of the back straight then he'll wear them down.

TIP OF THE DAY
Two cracking performances off tricky draws since resuming from a spell by 1 Ruby Roe. Massive upswing in draw here for her today and if she can hold up enough early to get the sweet trip on the markers then her high speed brings her right into play and makes her awfully hard to beat.

1 Captains Mistress
On a hit and run mission to qualify for the Cup Day Gr.1, 1 Captains Mistress couldn't have asked for a better set up. Lands the ace and can control her own destiny from there. Did a wonderful job in Australia and will now be out to assert her dominance as one of the best in NZ.

2 Muscle Mountain
Back in winning form in a big way after his Canterbury Park Cup win, 2 Muscle Mountain gets the prime chance to win again here with a key barrier advantage over his main rival. Should lead early, but might take a sit from there and will then unleash from the trail.

Cracking run in behind the incomparable Jumal last time out from 7 Zeus Lightning. He's flying and with the big guns absence today gets to stake his claim as the one leading the chase. Wide draw isn't too much of a concern just needs the right trip to unfold.

Two pretty easy kills in his last two appearances from 7 Republican Party. Good manners and a high cruising speed have made it impossible to run him down. Might not get it quite so easy here but there's not many, if any, pacers going as well as him at the moment.

7 Clonakilty
Lovely work through the line late at Oamaru from 7 Clonakilty, he's going to get one soon. Home track advantage here and the big roomy track really will suit him. Look for him to sit off the speed and wind up late and he'll be charging at them too.
