Race 1
14 Brutiful Lass
Produced a strong first-up run at Woodville when finishing 2nd, despite being held up badly in the straight after enjoying a perfect trailing spot. She now steps up to 1400m, which looks ideal, and Craig Grylls takes over the riding duties. With clear air this time around, she should be able to build through her gears and is well placed to go one better.
Race 2
9 Circus Dancer
Was an impressive debut winner at New Plymouth, finishing off strongly on a testing surface. From her wide draw, she's likely to get back again here, though that may not be negative if Spandeedo ensures a genuine tempo up front. She looks a filly with upside and should be competitive again with even luck from the draw.
Race 3
2 Toronto
TIP OF THE DAY
Was big in defeat at Trentham last start, hitting the front a long way from home and only being run down late. He maps to receive a perfect cart across the field from Felucca and Classy Brahma drawn underneath, possibly giving him the opportunity to slot in just behind the leaders. If he gets that soft run just off the speed with cover, he looks extremely hard to beat.
Race 4
3 Rogue Romance
Never saw daylight over the final 600m at Tauherenikau, where she travelled strongly but wasn't able to get clear until the race was all but over. She now gains the services of Craig Grylls and should be further improved third-up. With a cleaner passage, she can bounce back.
Race 5
11 Special Sakura
Had no luck whatsoever first-up at Tauherenikau, working four-wide the entirety on a genuine tempo. From a low draw second-up, she should be able to settle much closer to the speed while getting a far more economical run. She looks an appealing each-way play at a generous price.
Race 6
4 Freddie Time
Freddie Time turned in a strong effort for 4th at Trentham after being slowly away and spotting the leaders a handy start. A cleaner jump here from his favourable draw should see him settle in the first half of the field with cover. He shapes as a key chance in what looks a very open contest.
Race 7
2 Doctor Askar
Was disappointing in the Foxbridge Plate, his only run last prep, but he now resumes and looks far better suited back on a sounder surface closer to home. His form from his prior campaign was excellent, and if he produces anything close to his best, he'll take plenty of beating fresh.
Race 8
10 Khanshe
Resumes as a five-year-old mare after finishing a gallant 3rd in the Rangitikei Cup before being spelled. Her two recent trials have been excellent and suggest she's come back in terrific order. She maps to settle off the speed with cover from her low draw and should be winding up strongly late.
Race 9
3 Crunchie Boy
Wasn't at his best here last start over 2200m. Back to 1650m looks ideal, and he maps to roll forward with a good cart across the field from Blue Rata Warea and Bonnard early. If he can find something closer to his best, he's capable of taking this out.
