New Plymouth Race 1
2 Black Sea

Black Sea (#2) produced an improved run for 5th here last start, finding the line from the back in a race that wasn't suited to those wide and off-speed. He maps to settle much closer from the low draw this time, and having Craig Grylls aboard is a key positive. Stepping to 2000m should suit and he looks capable of further improvement.

New Plymouth Race 2
8 Irish Flute

Irish Flute (#8), a 3yo Almanzor filly on debut for Tony Pike, heads here on the back of a quiet trial where she never saw daylight and was eased down late. She's drawn favourably under Sam Weatherley and strikes a very even maiden field without a standout on paper.

New Plymouth Race 3
8 Della Ricci

Della Ricci (#8), a 3yo Ocean Park filly on debut for the James/Wellwood stable, impressed winning her Taupo trial with a sharp turn of foot from the back. She maps to get a soft run from her draw and will likely be allowed to find a rhythm before producing late.

New Plymouth Race 4
10 Laura's Legacy

Laura's Legacy (#10) is a locally trained 3yo Ocean Park filly debuting for Janelle Millar. Her recent jumpout win here was run in good time relative to the other heats on the day. She's drawn well for her debut and at the price looks worth speculating on over others in the market.

New Plymouth Race 5
6 Into The Circle

Into The Circle (#6) battled on fairly into 4th at Waverley over 1400m, and she looks better suited coming back to 1200m here. From the low draw she maps to push forward and take up the running under Craig Grylls. If she finds the front uncontested, she can give them something to catch.

New Plymouth Race 6
6 Tavi Ann

TIP OF THE DAY
Tavi Ann (#6) closed off well here first-up, with 1400m on firm ground proving a shade sharp for her. She looks much better suited rising to the mile second-up with some give in the track. George Rooke taking over is another positive. Expect a significantly improved performance.

New Plymouth Race 7
3 Meloni

Meloni (#3) had no luck whatsoever here first-up, never able to build momentum in the straight. The rise in trip second-up looks ideal, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Craig Grylls be more positive from the wide draw this time. Capable of bouncing back sharply.

New Plymouth Race 8
5 Ballistic Miss

Ballistic Miss (#5) struggled in the Heavy conditions at Pukekohe last start but should be far better suited back to R60 grade on improved footing. She draws well and with Sam Weatherley aboard, she looks capable of producing a much more competitive showing.
