Encouraging signs for Pacing Cup Champion

Trainer Ray Williams’ confidence is growing about Magnificent Storm being able to defend his WA Pacing Cup title later this year.

A knee issue kept Magnificent Storm out of the Nullarbor (2536m) and Fremantle Cup (2936m) earlier this year.

There were some doubts as to whether the gelding would be back in time to defend his Pacing Cup crown, but Ray Williams said early signs were good in his road to recovery.

"He's about three weeks away from coming back," Williams told The Trots WA.

"He's been in a yard down at Trevor Lindsay's place, so I haven't seen him for a while.

"All reports are that he's well, but I won't be happy until he's at my place or at Grant and Alana's (Williams)."

The seven-year-old has started just twice since last year's Pacing Cup, including a win in the Village Kid Sprint (1730m).

Williams said he hoped to have Magnificent Storm racing by October to give him the best chance of winning the Pacing Cup again.

"I'm not getting ahead of myself," he said.

"If we can get him back early July, then I've got three months to have him ready.

"If he's all good then I've got plenty of time to get him ready.

"I'd like to give him three runs before the Pacing Cup."

Meanwhile, Williams also indicated talented pacer Star Casino was also close to returning to work.
