Albany’s Harold Reid Paceway is set for its biggest year of racing to date, with the Albany Harness Racing Club celebrating its 50th anniversary this season.

The Great Southern-based paceway has a rich history in harness racing, with strong community support each summer season.

Albany Harness Club President Tim Stone acknowledged the remarkable milestone and said the Albany Harness Racing Club was an important social pillar.

"The club is in a really good position and it's a great achievement to still be going strong after 50 years," Tim said.

"Racing at the club provides a great social gathering for the community. 

"Member numbers are growing every year, and we aim to provide them with the best product."

Headlined by the Albany Cup, this year's season will feature an extra draw card with the 50th anniversary meeting set to bring increased crowds on December 28.

Racing WA Head of Harness and Special Operations Cameron Brown said the milestone was a testament to harness racing's importance to the State.

"The Albany Harness Racing Club reaching its 50th anniversary is a fantastic achievement and proud moment for the club and community that continue to support it," he said.

Racegoers will be greeted on course at the opening meeting this week with a recently painted mural as a tribute to the club reaching the 50-year milestone at Harold Reid Paceway.
