Bay City Roller is looking for a first success since an easy win in last year's Group 2 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster and could earn automatic qualification for the Group 1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe if taking victory in the Group 2 Prix Niel.

The four-year-old, who will be in gate four for the contest, was disappointing on last start in the in the Group 2 York Stakes after starting slowly, a performance which disappointed Scott.

"He came out of the Group 2 York Stakes absolutely fine, but the race was a disaster as he stood in the gate, which is really unlike him and completely gave his race away at the start," he explained.

"So, we've just put a line through that."

However, the Newmarket-based trainer was confident that the three-year-old can show improved form with his preferred ground expected for Sunday's assignment at Longchamp.

"We've been pretty clear that we wanted to get him racing with some genuine cut in the ground.

"It's just going to be sensible ground on Sunday, just on the slow side of good, which should be fine for him.

Bay City Roller also steps up to a mile-and-a-half for the first time, another positive for the New Bay colt.

"On his pedigree, he'd always look like he'd be fine going over a mile-and-a-half. He's got quite a lot of tactical speed, so I'd be quite confident with how the race should set up. We're looking forward to trying it.

Callum Shepherd, who has achieved two high-profile victories in France aboard Qudwaah this season, will take the ride.

"He's a very mature horse and you can ride him however you want. I'll leave that up to Callum on Sunday. I'd be thinking you'd want to stay away from the heat of the race early on, but he's got a nice turn of foot, so I'd think it'd suit him to be positioned off the pace and nice and relaxed."

On Saturday, Sea The Stars colt Command The Stars will head to Craon for the Listed Criterium de l'Ouest, a race which dual Derby winner Lambourn won last year.

Scott's two-year-old produced winning performances winning at Beverley and Lingfield Park, before placing second at the Ebor Festival in a nursery handicap.

The entry marks Scott's first runner at Craon.

"We always try to put the horses in the right races, wherever it may be. We've had a lot of success travelling all over the world and we keep our eyes open for any opportunities.

"Command The Stars will be a nice horse moving forward particularly if he can get some Black Type. Myself and the and the owners felt it would be a fun race to try and take out.

"He's definitely a horse for next year and maybe a very valuable horse next season, whether it be winning a top-level handicap or a Stakes race.

"If he won this contest, we might take a chance at one of the big Group 1 races at the end of the year."
