Jockey Club launches campaign event series to celebrate 140th anniversary with the community

The Hong Kong Jockey Club announced today 14th October the launch of a series of programmes and initiatives as part of a new campaign to mark its 140th anniversary.

The campaign – under the banner "With you. Then. Now. Always." – is designed to celebrate the Club's shared history and continuing partnership with the people of Hong Kong and outline its optimism about the city's future.

From its founding in 1884, the Club's partnership with the community has continued to grow. Today the Club employs a unique integrated business model, through which racing and wagering generate tax contributions, charity support and employment opportunities for Hong Kong.

In the 2023/24 financial year, the Club contributed a record HK$40.1 billion to the community comprising HK$29.9 billion in betting duty, profits tax and Lotteries Fund contributions and a record HK$10.2 billion in approved charity donations. The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust is now one of the world's leading charity donors.

The Club's commitment to the community has been evidenced time and again through the years, as we have stood together with Hong Kong as part of its growth and development.

Club Chairman Michael Lee said: "The Club's 140th anniversary is not just about a date or a year. It is about the community and the people that drive Hong Kong forward. It is about how we have grown together and how we are connected. We cherish the community's resilience, diversity and unwavering spirit. It is this spirit that is the foundation of our optimism about Hong Kong's future."

Club CEO Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges said: "From a small racing club founded in 1884, we have grown into a world-class racing organisation. Uniquely, we also contribute very substantially to the betterment of society. We want to thank the community which has made all the good we do possible and bring people together. We want to show the Club's appreciation for Hong Kong and to say a big 'thank you' to all our fellow citizens."

The Club has launched a dedicated campaign website highlighting the Club's major milestones over the past 140 years. It features stories outlining the Club's development together with Hong Kong, as well as compelling tales spotlighting the people that are making a difference.

In coming months, the Club will launch a series of celebratory activities under the campaign banner. Highlights include:
