Today's racing in South Korea

Busan Race 1: Class 6 (5f) Special Weight A / $32,000

It's juvenile maiden fillies only in the opener. (9) ECHO CHAMP is among six of the nine coming racing for the first time. She was the best of these in trials, racing on pace and running home 4th in a quick time. If she can bring that form to the races, she can win. She is the first by her sire, Champ Line, who was also trained by Thomas Gillespie, to make the track. (4) OWNER CHAMP also impressed in her heat, coming from off the pace to run 2nd in a good time. She draws nicely and can be a danger. The three with prior experience all debuted in the same race on June 21st over this distance and it was (1) DOCTOR MEGA who came out the best of them, racing handy and finishing 5th. (3) FANTASTIC HIT was 7th in that race but had previously shown well in trials and can improve. (2) GREEN SHARPEY the best of the other first-timers.

Selections   (9) Echo Champ (4) Owner Champ (1) Doctor Mega (3) Fantastic Hit
Next Best   2, 8
Fast Start   1, 2, 5, 9

Seoul Race 1: Class 6 (6f) Special Weight A / $22,000

Competitive maiden. (1) JEONGSEONG VICE has a runner-up finish to his name and comes in off a close 3rd place over this distance on June 2nd when on pace throughout. He draws well here, Johan remains aboard, and he can make it ninth-time lucky. (2) HANGANG PERFECT was well fancied on debut over 5f having previously shown well in a trial, but he got quite a long way back and only ran on for 6th. He should have derived benefit from the experience and the step up in trip can be in his favour. (3) CRAZY SHAH completes the top line of favourites with a 2nd and a 3rd from her latest two at 6f and 6 1/2f. She can be on pace here and in things a long way. The form drops off after those although (11) GROUPER also has a 2nd and a 3rd on his record and along with (10) GOLDEN JACKPOT, who looks the better of the two first-timers, can be considered for the minors.

Selections   (1) Jeongseong Vice (2) Hangang Perfect (3) Crazy Shah (11) Grouper
Next Best   10, 5
Fast Start   1, 3, 4, 11

Busan Race 2: Class 6 (7f) Special Weight A / $22,000

(5) DREAMING BOY ran 3rd on debut over 6f in May but put in a disappointing effort second up at 6 1/2f on June 7th when awkwardly away and colliding with the adjacent horse and then seemingly getting caught in kickback. We'll draw a line through that and with Munro climbing on, give him another chance. (7) UNJU GUY was a solid 2nd on debut over 6f on June 16th, settling right back and working home well. He didn't get anywhere near the very good-looking winner, but he should have come on for the run and the extended trip should surely suit and he will probably start the betting favourite. (6) PURUEN YEOLJEONG has perked up considerably in her latest two and may be a racehorse after all. She was on pace last time and in this company, should be again. (2) NEOM CITY and (4) SIMON STAR among others in the placing frame.

Selections   (5) Dreaming Boy (7) Unju Guy (6) Puruen Yeoljeong (2) Neom City
Next Best   4, 3
Fast Start   3, 6, 7, 8

Seoul Race 2: Class 6 (6 1/2f) Special Weight A / $22,000

(1) COING made most of the running on debut over 6f on June 16th only to be passed late but holding on for 2nd. He should have derived benefit from that experience and from a good draw, he can lead again, and this time go one better. (6) HEUNGHAENG BULPAE has finished no worse than 5th in any of his eight starts so far and beat three of today's rivals on his way to a best so far runner-up finish over this distance on June 9th when settling midfield and running on. He shapes as the main danger here. Those two will make up everybody's quinella such does the form drop off after them. (4) HERO CHAMP does have a couple of 3rd places on his record which despite recent form being poor, is enough to make him a money chance here. (2) SCALE KING and (7) GEUMSEONG YEOJE other minor contenders.

Selections   (1) Coing (6) Heunghaeng Bulpae (4) Hero Champ (2) Scale King
Next Best   7, 8
Fast Start   1, 3, 5, 7

Busan Race 3: Class 5 (7f) Handicap / $32,000

This is a really nice-looking race for the level. (3) LEMON BULPAE has placed at this class and distance and has finished 4th in two starts back since returning from a four-month layoff. He carries his fair share of weight, but he draws nicely, he has the fastest time among these for the distance, and third-up, he can be peaking fitness-wise. (4) MORPHEUS was slightly disappointing last time out in early May but was later found to be slightly lame and to have cast a plate. He has won at a mile and placed at this class at 6f and is a big danger. So too is (9) WONDERFUL FEVER. He is yet to win in five attempts but has never finished worse than 5th and placed twice at this distance at class 6 level. (2) QUEEN'S FLETAR and the up in class (6) POMPEII among plenty of others who can be in the mix.

Selections   (3) Lemon Bulpae (4) Morpheus (9) Wonderful Fever (2) Queen's Fletar
Next Best   6, 8
Fast Start   3, 4, 7, 9

Seoul Race 3: Class 5 (6 1/2f) Handicap / $32,000

Decent race but it's hard to go far past (1) BUGANGJILJU. He got his maiden win at start number two in March before stepping up to this class and distance on June 15th and almost leading from gate to wire, ultimately getting passed late on by a good winner. He comes up in the weights but that's balanced by a good gate, and he can go all the way this time. Neither (5) EUREKA nor (9) DREAM SKY win out of turn, but both are ultra-experienced at this level, and both enter with their recent form reading well. The latter gets a nice weight drop with an apprentice climbing on, putting her back below the mark she won at over 6f three starts back, and both can be competitive here. (4) GANGHAN NURI and (7) SMART WORLD among others in the pacing frame.

Selections   (1) Bugangjilju (5) Eureka (9) Dream Sky (4) Ganghan Nuri
Next Best   7, 11
Fast Start   1, 4, 9, 11

Busan Race 4: Class 5 (1 1/8M) Handicap / $32,000

(4) WONDERFUL IMPACT comes in having run 2nd and 4th in her latest two, both at this class and distance. She remains under a light weight but comes into a good gate here and with franco staying up, she shapes as the one to beat. She will need to overturn the form on (9) EONJENA YEONGUNG. The veteran non-winner beat Wonderful Impact as the pair ran 3rd and 4th on June 9th, coming from well off the pace and while he can wildly mix his form (except winning), he may be worth some interest at a probable big price. (6) WITH STAR was 5th in that June 9th race when dealing with the widest gate. She has since run 5th again when slow away on June 30th, but with Munro getting up here, she could be ready for improvement. (7) GOOD DADDY and (2) BLISS MARINE are others in the hunt.

Selections   (4) Wonderful Impact (9) Eonjena Yeongung (6) With Star (7) Good Daddy
Next Best   2, 8
Fast Start   2, 3, 8, 10

Seoul Race 4: Class 5 (6f) Handicap / $32,000

(4) GEOLJAK SIDAE is one for one having made all to win on debut over 5f on June 15th as comfortably as she pleased. She previously won a trial in double-quick time. Neither the class rise, or the distance rise should be a problem for her and from a good draw and under a light weight, she will be favoured to preserve her 100% record. It's a competitive field though. Similarly named (7) GOLD SIDAE was a winner on debut and has since managed a 4th and a 3rd in two starts at this distance, racing on pace both times. He'll be on pace again and can be in this a long way for the in-form Riccardi stable. (2) ROYAL BEST has eight to-four finishes form nine starts so far and has the fastest time among these for the distance. From a good draw, he'll be in the mix. (6) THUNDER A ONE and the returning (1) PHOENIX CLASS, who looked well winning a trial at the end of June, are others to consider.

Selections   (4) Geoljak Sidae (7) Gold Sidae (2) Royal Best (6) Thunder A One
Next Best   1, 5
Fast Start   1, 2, 4, 7

Busan Race 5: Class 4 (6f) Handicap / $43,000

(8) GLORY CROWN enters off three consecutive runner-up finishes, all at this class and at 7f and at today's distance. Both his previous wins came over 6f and while he is giving weight to the rest of the field, Seo Seung-un climbs up and today can be the day he returns to winning ways. (1) TAEWANG SINGI beat a couple of these on his way to 2nd place in a fast race at this class and distance on June 14th when handy throughout. He only comes up 1kg in the weights, Franco remains up, and from a good draw, he is a big danger. (7) SEUNGNI PARTY led all the way to score over 6 1/2f on June 16th. She comes up in class and she has been beaten by a few of these before in the lower divisions but the manner of that win, along with the light weight, suggests there can be more to come. (4) ROAD STAR and (9) OVER ENERGY are others to consider.

Selections   (8) Glory Crown (1) Taewang Singi (7) Seungni Party (4) Road Star
Next Best   9, 2
Fast Start   1, 4, 7, 10

Seoul Race 5: Class 5 (1 1/16M) Handicap / $32,000

(3) THE GIANT will be a short-price favourite having win at this class and distance in fine style on June 15th. He comes up 4kg in the weights, but he draws well and there is little in this small field for him to be concerned about. The only other one that enters in any semblance of form is (4) STAR RUSH and it's not easy to pick a forty-four-race maiden. He was 5th behind The Giant on June 15th, continuing a consistent run of form and he should have the beating of most of these – albeit once more finding at least one too quick. (5) CHOEGANG NICE got his solitary win at this distance and his recent efforts have been fair. An apprentice claiming 4kg brings him into this. (6) HERO QUEEN and (1) MACH BISANG are perhaps the best of a limited rest.

Selections   (3) The Giant (4) Star Rush (5) Choegang Nice (6) Hero Queen
Next Best   1, 7
Fast Start   1, 3, 6, 8

Busan Race 6: Class 4 (1M) Handicap / $43,000

Competitive race. (6) SEUNGNIUIYEONGUNG is a winner at this class and has finished no worse 3rd in seven starts. He hasn't raced since last November when he beat a few of today's rivals on his way to 2nd place at this class and distance, but he has been in work for most of the intervening period with minor setbacks preventing him from racing. He looked very well in a quick trial at the end of June, and he can win first-up. (11) HAMPYEONG IS BACK will have to contend with the widest gate but has proven competent at this level and it this distance with a 3rd and a 5th from his latest two in arguably tougher company than this. Franco climbs up for the first time and nicely weighted, he should have a say. (9) BUGYEONG LION won at this class and distance three starts back and has since followed up with a 4th and a 3rd and will be in the frame. (10) CAPTAIN DIA and (2) COW LINE among others to consider.

Selections   (6) Seungniuiyeongung (11) Hampyeong Is Back (9) Bugyeong Lion (10) Captain Dia
Next Best   2, 4
Fast Start   3, 4, 7, 10

Seoul Race 6: Class 4 (7f) Handicap / $43,000

(6) UASEN is two for two having won over 6f and 6 1/2f, both times racing on pace and stopping the clock in quick times on both occasions. That brings her rapidly up in class, but the manner of those victories suggests there is plenty more to come, and she will be a short price favourite to score again. (4) QUEEN OF BEST rounded out last year with back-to-back victories at 6f and 7f before running 4th on her first try at this class at a mile in January. She hasn't raced since, but she looked well in a late June trial and can be a factor first-up here. (1) FLYING CARAVANE was a smart winner over 6f two starts back and then 3rd at this class over 6 1/2f on June 9th. He tackles this distance for the first time, but his running style suggests it can suit. (3) SUPER ECTON and (9) SEOUL CHOEGANGJA are others to keep safe.

Selections   (6) Uasen (4) Queen Of Best (1) Flying Caravane (3) Super Ecton
Next Best   9, 7
Fast Start   2, 6, 8, 9

Busan Race 7: Class 3 (7f) Handicap / $54,000

(10) NAKDONG JEONSA beat several of these on his way to 2nd place at this class and distance on June 9th when coming from off the pace. He comes up 2kg in the weights, but that's balanced a little by Franco climbing up and with the fastest time of any of these at the distance, he can win here. (1) HAENAM HAMMER ran 3rd in that June 9th race, racing on pace throughout and briefly leading. From the inside gate, he can be expected to be on pace again and is a big danger. (4) HANEUL JEWANG comes up in class following a win over this distance on June 14th. He comes down 3kg in the weights and can measure up in this company. (5) SAVAHA and (11) GEUMA INFINITE other place chances.

Selections   (10) Nakdong Jeonsa (1) Haenam Hammer (4) Haneul Jewang (5) Savaha
Next Best   11, 9
Fast Start   1, 2, 5, 9

Seoul Race 7: Class 4 (6 1/2f) Handicap / $43,000

(1) CAPTAIN TIME won in a quick time over this distance two starts back before finishing 3rd at 7f on her first try at this class on June 2nd, racing handy and running on. She remains well in at the weights and from the inside gate, she should have too much for this company. (4) TAEPYEONG FIGHTER has just the one win to her name but no fewer than five runner-up finishes, including her last start on May 26th when running on from midfield. She looks nicely in here and shapes as the main danger. (6) VILLARRICA was a class and distance winner in a quick time at big odds last time out. That was back in April, and he is up 3kg in the weights but warrants more respect here. (7) ARGO MUJEOK and (3) ULTRA SOCKS among plenty of others with placing chances.

Selections   (1) Captain Time (4) Taepyeong Fighter (6) Villarrica (7) Argo Mujeok
Next Best   3, 5
Fast Start   3, 4, 5, 10

Busan Race 8: Class 2 (1 1/8M) Handicap / $65,000

(10) BLACK MAMBA is a winner of five from seven so far and is two for two since returning from a ten-month absence in April. Both were front-running efforts over a mile and 1 1/8M and he comes up to class 2 level for the first time here. He still carries his fair share of weight, but he has the potential to go all the way to the top and he is favoured to win again. He needs to contend with the Korean Derby runner-up though. (4) WORLD DRAGON ran a solid 2nd in the Classic back in May and was well-fancied for the final leg of the Triple Crown, the Minister's Cup, in June but had to be scratched after rearing up in the gates. He makes his return here having already won at the distance and looking very nicely in although Seo Seung-un – who also got hurt in that gate incident – gets on Black Mamba. (3) CLEAR is two starts into a comeback following eight months out and has run 5th and 3rd. He can match or better those here. (2) ATLAS and (9) I WILL BE FREE among others in the placing frame.

Selections   (10) Black Mamba (4) World Dragon (3) Clear (2) Atlas
Next Best   9, 5
Fast Start   3, 4, 10, 11

Seoul Race 8: Class 3 (6f) Handicap / $54,000

Three standouts here. (10) BRIGHT HANSEN won his first three races in fine style before running 6th in a stiff Trophy race in April and then 3rd over 7f at class 4 level on May 25th when leading for most of the way before fading a little late on. Coming back to 6f should suit and while the draw is a touch wider than ideal, he can win. (7) RAON THE COBRA comes up in class having won his latest two in fine style at 6 1/2f and 6f. CC Wong has a 100% record on him and down in the weights, they can complete a hat-trick together here. (5) BEOLGYO VERITAS has already completed a hat-trick, having won his latest three, all at this distance. He can win from on pace or from behind and while up in class here, he too can measure up. (4) GLOBAL GANGTA and (1) SPRING KKUM can contend for the minors.

Selections   (10) Bright Hansen (7) Raon The Cobra (5) Beolgyo Veritas (4) Global Kangta
Next Best   1, 8
Fast Start   3, 5, 8, 10

Seoul Race 9: Class 4 (1 1/8M) Handicap / $43,000

(6) TIZ MORNING won three in a row between February and May to get rapidly promoted to this class, whereupon her run came to an end with a 3rd place over 7f on June 9th. That was in all-filly company so she comes down 2kg facing the boys today and the step up to two turns can suit. (10) GENTLE YARA got his maiden win at this class and distance on June 16th, racing on pace throughout. With an apprentice claiming 4kg, he actually carries even less weight this time around and he handled a fairly wide draw without issues last time. (11) ULTRA DRAGON was also a last start class and distance winner, making all on April 7th. He comes in off fourteen-weeks out and comes up 4.5kg in the weights, but a repeat can't be ruled out. (3) VISION POWER and (4) BUL HWASAN others in the placing hunt.

Selections   (6) Tiz Morning (10) Gentle Yara (11) Ultra Dragon (3) Vision Power
Next Best   4, 5
Fast Start   3, 6, 10, 11
