No catching Pacific Vampire on the inside track

With his natural early speed, Pacific Vampire has – more often than not – proved hard to catch when racing on the main track.

So when it comes to running on the sharper No. 2 track, the Impending galloper appears unbeatable.

But today's Supreme A race over 1020m on the inside track at Sungai Besi saw three well-backed runners taking him on, including the bang-in-form Filial Dragon who won four consecutive races before going down to Noah Khan in his last start. The other two being Platinum Fort and Bransom.

But they all proved to be no match for Pacific Vampire as he cruised to a 3-1/4-length victory.

Platinum Fort took the early lead but Pacific Vampire, ridden by Jerlyn Seow, quickly joined him as the field settled down before breaking away to a clear lead at the 600m. Platinum Fort was second, followed by Bransom, Dream Alliance and Filial Dragon.

The Jason Ong-trained Pacific Vampire  led into the straight three lengths clear of Platinum Fort. Tried as the latter did, he could not gain ground on the leader who kept up a bright galloper all the way in the straight.

Filial Dragon just beat Bransom to take third placing.

"He's (Pacific Vampire) is genuine, a fabulous and amazing horse," said Seow who rode the son of I Am Invincible in his first barrier trial and his first win back in Singapore.

"We did have some doubts today because it's 1020m and we had a wide barrier draw (8 after course scratchings).

"We expected a lot of speed on the inside but I think the speed was just right today."

Seow has now ridden Pacific Vampire to three of the gelding's four wins in Malaysia.

Pacific Vampire also picked up four wins, including one Kranji Stakes A race, in 11 starts in Singapore prior to coming over to the country.

Pacific Vampire even took part in the final race in Singapore, the Grand Singapore Gold Cup (2000m) last Oct 5 but finished last of 16 runners.

But sprinting is his forte and he is one of the best in that department at the moment.

Meanwhile, another Jason Ong runner Pacific Star completed a hattrick in the Supreme C event over 1800m with Andre da Silva partnering him in all the three wins.

The Australian gelding by Boulder City won thrice over 1400m at Kranji but has shown in liking for longer trips in Malaysia.

The six-year-old has now won four times from 1500m to 1800m in 13 runs at Sungai Besi.
