Selangor Race Preview: Sunday, 24th August, 2025

A couple of runners will be aiming for the winning hat trick when they contest their respective divisions of the 1150m Class 5A events (Races 2 and 3) at the Selangor turf Club on Sunday.

The Wild Prince , from the Jason Ong yard has already posted successive wins on two separate occasions this season, taking his Malaysian tally to four wins from fourteen starts. Leading jockey Andre Da Silva has ridden the eight year old to two wins from three mounts and the combination should strike in another winnable contest on Sunday.

Two Million  is engaged in a more open race of the two divisions but has won his last two starts by a combined margin of 10.75L, starting at prohibitive quotes of RM9 and RM6 on the local tote. The six year old has won four from ten locally finding his niche since joining the Joseph Leck stables earlier this year.

A couple of gallopers with handy form lines from Australia will be making their local debuts in the 1150m Open Novice (Race 4). MIST THE DEDLINE, for trainer Simon Dunderdale won its maiden in South Australia over 1700m in June last year and is first up since October. The five year old wasn't overly taxed in a recent trial and the trainer is enjoying some success with these former Aussies in recent weeks.

The form lines of OUR JET from the HY Cheng yard probably stack up better when comparing racing jurisdictions in Australia. OUR JET has one win from thirteen starts to its credit but has performed well on the metropolitan tracks in Perth, Western Australia. The five year old's maiden victory was over 1000m back in October 2023 and he resumes from a six month break. The Open novice has lived up to its name with numerous chances including last start winners SPICY BABE and Gold Medal Rose , who will be coming off low ratings in the set Weights contest. Dunderdale's other stable representative, INFINITY SPIRIT is also due to strike after maintaining good form at Class 4 level.

From the Tuesday trials RELEASE THE SPIRIT may be a value option in the 1020m Class 4A contest (Race 5). In a race of several chances, RELEASE THE SPIRIT has not raced since he was outclassed in the 3YO Selangor Mile on June 29 over the unsuitable 1600m journey. Oscar Chavez rode the horse in the trial and will ride the gelding for the first time under race conditions. The four year old is also unbeaten in two starts at Class 4 level. TRIGGER PEGASUS has not won for a year but does boast an excellent second up record (5:3-0-2) and will strip fitter despite the drop from 1400m back to 1020m.

One horse which is due to strike is KHAO MANEE in the 1500m Class 5A  event (Race 10). The Jerome Tan stable was back in form with a double last Sunday and KHAO MANEE looks ideally placed second start back in Class 5 company. The eight year old chalked up three wins in a row immediately after arriving from Singapore, two of those over the 1500m trip. From the good draw with Bernardo Pinheiro aboard, the veteran campaigner looks one of the better bets on the twelve race card.
