Having found his feet in his last outing when he came from behind to win a Class 4A race over 1775m on the No. 2 track, Elite Boy is on the march again, this time winnning drawing away in the Supreme C race over 1800m at Sungai Besi on Sunday.
The Ribchester galloper was the last to break with Latin Legend in the set-weight event today and they both settled in midfield while Saint Tropez set the pace from Super Bowl and Hennu Stall. Elite Boy, Latin Legend and Infinity Victory were in a line next in the eight-horse field.
The order was Saint Tropez, Hannu Stall, Super Bowl, Infinity Victory and Elite Boy when the field raced past the 800m.
Saint Tropez led into the straight with the rest bunching up behind him, with only four lengths separating first and last.
Saint Tropez kicked away shortly after entering the straight and was three lengths clear with 250m to go. Elite Boy emerged from the pack to go after him in the final 200m, eventually racing past him 50m out to win by 2-1/2 lengths.
Saint Tropez held on for second while Latin Legend finished third after being held on for the most part of the home stretch.
"I was surprised when (trainer) Richard Lim put me on the horse which I have not ridden before," said jockey Lim Aun Kean who had a double astride Sacred Command and From The Navy in Ipoh yesterday.
"But I worked him on Wednesday and was pleased with the workout.
"I missed the jump a little but made up ground quickly. He ran well and deserved to win.
"Hopefully I get to ride him again."
Unplaced in his only run at three, Elite Boy – then known as Pendle Hill – had a win over 1700m and two placings in as many starts at four in Australia.
Elite Boy finished on the podium in all his first three starts in Malaysia and was given a crack at the RM1mil Selangor Mile in July. He finished ninth of 16 runners.
He has won the last two of his three runs since the Selangor Mile and looks a bright prospect for the future, which probably explained why his connections were willing to bid A$115,000 for him in an online sale last November.
"He won well and I am happy with his run today," said trainer Lim.
"At the moment I don't have any specific plans for him."
