Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore teamed up to success once more when Garden Of Eden produced a smart performance to land the Group 2 Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot on Thursday.
Just over an hour on from steering Charles Darwin to victory in the Norfolk Stakes, Ryan Moore was back in the winners' enclosure courtesy of Garden Of Eden's commanding success.
Stepping up to twelve furlongs for the first time following a victory in Listed company at Naas last time out, Garden Of Eden's sat well off the pace of her front-running stablemate Ecstatic, who soon looked to be feeling the pitch turning for home.
As Ecstatic faded out of contention, Garden Of Eden mounted a strong challenge down the middle of the track, moving to the head of affairs under Ryan Moore.
From there on in, she kept on stoutly, pulling clear of her rivals to score by a ready three and a quarter lengths from the 40/1 shot Understudy, who in turn, was in front of the 2/1 market leader Catalina Delcarpio.
O'Brien, who was saddling his third successive winner in the contest following Warm Heart (2023) and Port Fairy (2024), said: "I was impressed with that, and she is getting better, which is great. We always thought stepping up in trip would help her. We stepped her up to a mile and a quarter the last day and she improved a lot.
"She is by Saxon Warrior and, when they go up in distance, they do get better. The Irish Oaks would be a possibility, but she could also go to America for a Grade 1 over there – we will have to see."
Moore added: "She was very impressive. She has been gradually improving. Aidan kept saying every time she steps up, she will get better.
"We went a hard pace and got a bit detached. She kind of dropped the bridle and ran in snatches. Billy [Lee on the favourite] sneaked down the inside but, when I asked her to quicken, she quickened very well. Just typical Aidan – he keeps making them better."
