John and Thady Gosden's charge remained unbeaten as a three-year-old, making the transition into Group company with a final start victory in the Group 3 Prix du Prince d'Orange at Longchamp in early September. Returning as a four-year-old, Ombudsman was comfortably beaten by Almaqam in the Group 3 Brigadier Gerard Stakes, with connections left expecting marked improvement for his seasonal reappearance. A 7/1 in a competitive renewal of the Group 1 Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot, the colt gained an impressive first victory at the top level, drawing away from Anmaat in the closing stages for an easy two-length victory under William Buick, who retains the ride on Saturday.

He will face overseas competition from Andre Fabre's Sosie, who is equally reaching his prime at the age of four. The son of Sea The Stars was a winner of the Group 1 Grand Prix de Paris last season before finishing fourth behind Bluestocking in the Group 1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. Arguably, he has returned as a better horse in 2025, recording back to back Group 1 victories in the Prix Ganay and Prix d'Ispahan.

Aidan O'Brien will be represented by three-year-olds Camille Pissarro and Delacroix, who both benefit from a considerable weight allowance against their elder competitors. Camille Pissarro achieved success in the Group 1 Prix du Jockey Club at Chantilly on his third start of the campaign, benefiting from the step up to ten furlongs after finishing third in the mile Group 1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains. In contrast, Delacroix drops back in trip after a disappointing ninth in the Group 1 Derby, with two Group 3 wins over ten furlongs at Leopardstown already this season.

Group 1 2000 Guineas hero Ruling Court, who finished third in the Group 1 St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot, will try ten furlongs for the first time alongside last year's Group 1 Futurity Trophy Stakes victor Hotazhell, who was not disgraced when third in the Group 1 Irish 2000 Guineas on seasonal reappearance.
