Thomas Hodgson is back with two wagers on Tuesday.
Handicap debutant Cloaks Of Gold could prove well treated off an opening mark of 70 in the 1m4f Pontefract Squash And Leisure Club Handicap (16:10) at Pontefract on Tuesday.
On paper, the Richard Hannon-trained filly makes obvious appeal: she backs up quickly following a creditable runner-up effort chasing home the promising Favourite Memory in maiden company at Doncaster which earned a rating of 88.
While the three-year-old will have to contend with Analogical, who bears all the traditional hallmarks of a highly progressive second-season Sir Mark Prescott-trained staying handicapper, I was not especially taken by the gelding's second last time out at Doncaster off the same mark.
It is also perhaps pertinent to note that the Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum-owned runner is Sean Levey's sole mount of the day, while trainer Richard Hannon simultaneously holds three entries at Lingfield.
With the 'Prescott factor' priced into the market, it could pay to chance Cloaks Of Gold on ratings against the favourite at a current appraisal of 11/4.
1pt Win – Cloaks Of Gold
Odds – 11/4
Spinningweb is selected to make a winning return to the level in the 1m4f Tote Tramore Derby Handicap (19:20) at Tramore on Tuesday.
While the five-year-old was last seen on the flat 200 days ago, he has proven himself better than a mark of 49 in his exploits over obstacles, commanding a rating of 124 in that discipline. Having previously scored off 49 back in 2023 over this distance at Dundalk, the gelding has improved markedly since then and is capable of landing the spoils.
Good ground ought to prove no hindrance, with three wins in the formbook on similar going underfoot. The continued application of a tongue tie, likewise, can only be viewed as a positive.
The 7/2 currently generally available could represent some value.
1pt Win – Spinningweb
Odds – 7/2
