John and Thady Gosden's star miler Field Of Gold will not step up in trip for the Juddmonte International at York later in the month as he continues on the road to recovery after sustaining an injury at Goodwood last week.

A winner of the Irish 2000 Guineas and St James's Palace Stakes, Field Of Gold was a 1/3 chance to complete the same Group 1 hat-trick his father Kingman did in the Sussex Stakes.

However, he failed to pick up the pacesetting Qirat and was subsequently found to be lame by connections.

The Juddmonte-owned three-year-old will now undergo X-Rays on Wednesday.

Joint-trainer John Gosden told the Racing Post: "Field Of Gold's condition has improved. There is still some residual filling in a joint and further precautionary x-rays will be done on Wednesday. Overall, we're pleased with the improvement in his condition."

There had been plenty of chat in the aftermath of his St James's Palace success whether Field Of Gold would step up to ten furlongs later in the campaign. Whilst a trip to York for the Juddmonte International is firmly off the table, Field Of Gold does hold an entry in the Group 1 Royal Bahrain Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown on September 13, although he was not entered for the Champion Stakes over a mile and a quarter on Tuesday afternoon.

Should connections wish to stick to a mile, Field Of Gold has the options of the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot on Qipco Champions Day in October having featured on Tuesday's entry list, while he also currently has an engagement in the Prix du Moulin.
