Sam King is back with three selections on Sunday.
Haydock stages another round of the Sky Bet Sunday Series, with some excellent prize money on offer.
Karl Burke and Clifford Lee landed the nursery on this card twelve months ago and could do so once again with Jan Steen, who looks to have the right credentials to defy top weight at 4.15.
Withdrawn from a competitive nursery at Goodwood due to soft ground conditions last time out, Jan Steen should relish the quickening ground at Haydock this afternoon having shown useful form on good to firm on his first two career outings.
An impressive winner on debut at Thirsk when sent off short odds to oblige, the Amo Racing-owned juvenile went on to finish a creditable third in a warm novice at York under a penalty. The form of that York novice event has worked out nicely enough as well, with the winner finishing runner-up in Listed company next time out, the fourth-place horse readily landing the Listed Rose Bowl Stakes at Newbury since, while the fifth, Tadej, has subsequently scored in the Group 3 Prix de Cabourg and is now rated 102.
Jan Steen has since disappointed in the Windsor Castle Stakes, but he should be much more at home back over six furlongs here and with the Karl Burke team in fine form at present, this well-bred son of Sergei Prokofiev gets the nod to make a winning nursery debut off a mark of 87.
1pt Win – Jan Steen
Odds – 3/1
Sticking with the in-form Karl Burke team, who are operating at a classy 31% strike rate for the last fourteen days, Half Sovereign is another juvenile from the stable that looks to have every chance of scoring on her nursery bow at Leicester (4.00).
An eye-catching fourth on debut at Redcar earlier in the season, Half Sovereign has since put that initial experience to good use, scoring snugly when upped to seven furlongs at Ayr in July before defying the winners' penalty with commanding all-the-way success at Yarmouth last time.
The early morning market seems to prefer her stablemate Boiling Over, but Half Sovereign continues to progress and should have more to offer now stepping into handicaps off a mark of 80. The first mentioned colt has to give 6lb to the filly and if taking another step forward as expected, she could well prove capable of completing the hat-trick.
1pt Win – Half Sovereign
Odds – 5/2
Back over at Haydock, it could pay to take a chance on Night On Earth in the sprint handicap at 5.15.
Ian Williams has been enjoying a fine recent spell, saddling nine winners from thirty-seven runners across the last two weeks, so it's a tick in the box for stable form when looking at Night On Earth.
Another tick in the box Night On Earth has is his handicap mark, which is now a staggering 14lb lower than his last winning one.
There's no doubt there are risks attached backing a horse who hasn't won since this time last year, but as mentioned, that did come off a rating of 81 and he gets to contest this off just 67.
He was sent off the 6/4 market leader to cash in off a mark of 69 in Class 5 company at Newmarket last time out and although he couldn't get the job done, he did show his old early zip was still in the locker by showing plenty of dash from the gates.
The seven-year-old gelded son of Kodiac steps back into deeper waters here, but he's potentially well-drawn in gate fourteen and could take some pegging back off 8st 8lb if getting out sharply under Ed Greatrex, who has also enjoyed a decent season in the saddle to date.
1pt Win – Night On Earth
Odds – 10/1
