Jack Channon’s talented five-year-old Miss Attitude led home a one-two-three for Britain and Ireland when she came with a late flourish to take out the five-furlong Prix du Cercle at Deauville.
Having finished behind the reopposing Redorange when seventh over this trip in a competitive handicap at Goodwood last month, Miss Attitude arrived at Deauville looking to bounce back to the form she showed when second in the City Walls Stakes at York earlier last month.
Under a patient ride from jockey Rob Hornby, the daughter of Cityscape produced a taking turn of foot in the closing stages to win eased down by a length and a half from the Clive Cox-trained Redorange, who in turn, finished a short-head in front of the staying on Irish raider Songhai.
"I was delighted with her," said the winning rider on Sky Sports Racing. "It's my third time riding her in public. The first time I rode her up in York she gave me such a good feel. She's a filly with a huge amount of ability. The only quirk is that she doesn't do a great deal after hitting the front.
"Things didn't go right at Goodwood the last day. She was slowly away in a competitive handicap but still ran a solid race. Jack (Channon) was keen to back her up quickly with the form she was showing at home. The fast ground here definitely helped, although she's such a big filly, she seems able to use herself best on that faster surface. That was key today, along with the sharper tempo, being able to get her covered up and not seeing the half furlong until when I did.
" She pricks her ears when she hits the front and says, 'thanks very much, that's me done!'
"She's got a great cruising speed, she's very comfortable at that five-furlong speed, which makes you confident that she can build on this and compete at that higher level.
"We think she's capable of it and she's given a sign there that she could justify a step up in class and get as much Black Type for the owners as possible."
