Flag Carrier went straight into the notebook when returning from a short break with a good second at Doncaster last time out and he could well regain the winning thread in the mile handicap at Salisbury (3.00) this afternoon.

The Brian Toomey-trained four-year-old is a dual winner on the polytrack but remains a maiden on the turf. However, he's now found the frame on all four of his starts over a mile on the grass and surely, it's only a matter of time before he breaks his duck on this surface.

A winner over seven furlongs at Chelmsford in March, Flag Carrier returned to action with a highly promising effort at Doncaster, sweeping past the majority of his rivals from the rear of the field before failing to get on terms with the front-running Electric Lightning.

That performance confirmed his ability to stay the mile on the turf and should have put him spot on for this, while a mark of 66 shouldn't pose an issue given the fact he landed a handicap at Kempton off a rating of 75 for former handler Harry Eustace.

1pt Win - Flag Carrier

Odds – 5/2

Over at Beverley, Dandy Speed doesn't likely need to improve much if at all to land the opening five-furlong maiden for Charlie Johnston and Callum Shepherd, who teamed up to good effect at Carlisle yesterday.

As expected from a Johnston two-year-old, the son of Dandy Man certainly knew his job on debut at Musselburgh earlier in the season, showing plenty of early dash before fading late on to finish a length and three quarters adrift of Hugo Palmer's now 85-rated Ardisia.

That form looks like the best on offer here and having been off for 133 days subsequently, it's likely that Charlie Johnston's juvenile will have strengthened both physically and mentally.

Those with more experience hardly set a daunting standard and with further improvement expected, he should have every chance of getting off the mark second time out.

1pt Win – Dandy Speed

Odds – 9/4

The best bet of the day comes from Kempton this evening, where A War Eagle must have every chance of striking for the in-form Ed Bethell team in the mile handicap at 7.45.

A War Eagle has been steadily progressive in three starts since undergoing a wind-operation in April, going down by a neck on his handicap debut at Hamilton before going one spot better at Beverley next time out.

He was all the rage to follow-up when back at Hamilton last time but ultimately had little chance of scoring when bumping into the improving Sir Paul Ramsey, who fairly toyed with his rivals off a mark of 73. That rival has since followed up in game style at Haydock and now holds an official rating of 87.

A 2lb nudge up the weights for that second-place finish could ultimately prove lenient, while it's also worth watching how Criminal Shore, who finished third in that Hamilton handicap, gets on at Beverley this afternoon (4.15).

1pt Win - A War Eagle

Odds – 5/2
