Sam King is back with his best bets on Sunday.
York's high-class Ebor meeting may be over but there's still some excellent action on offer from Goodwood on Sunday.
The opening mile handicap looks like a competitive affair and one that could prove worth following as the season goes on.
Andrew Balding has enjoyed a profitable week up at York and it wouldn't be a shock if his progressive Mister Winston defied a 10lb hike in the weights for his recent impressive Newmarket success. That said, he's probably priced accordingly and there are some interesting alternatives, none more so that the talented yet frustrating Treble Tee.
Trained by the in-form combination of Simon and Ed Crisford, Treble Tee looked like a horse that could be destined for group races when beating the now 95 rated Mudbir on debut at Newmarket as a two-year-old. It's also worth noting that the 92 rated Humam and the 106-rated Pinhole finished third and fifth respectively that day.
He didn't run badly on his reappearance in a seven-furlong conditions event at Newmarket's Craven meeting, while he had the likes of the unbeaten Royal Ascot winner Amiloc and Jersey Stakes scorer Noble Champion ahead of him when last of six at Goodwood in May.
A subsequent gelding operation and switch to handicap company did at least see him finish out his race at Thirsk last time out. Although he wasn't able to reel in the gutsy winner Big Leader that day, it remained an effort that suggests he's firmly back on track and the form was done no harm when the winner went on to be touched off in a very competitive handicap at York earlier in the week.
Simon and Ed Crisford's charge should get plenty of cover from stall four and with Kieran Shoemark, who is arguably back riding at the top of his game, in the saddle, he looks to have every chance of going close off a mark of 95.
1pt Win – Treble Tee
Odds – 13/2
Plenty of eyes will be on Moon Target as she puts her unbeaten record on the line in the Prestige Fillies' Stakes tomorrow. Sir Mark Prescott has made it no secret that she is the best juvenile he has in the yard but as a result, she's been priced defensively by bookmakers and there is better value elsewhere.
Course experience can count for plenty at a track like Goodwood, so I'm happy to side with impressive last time out winner Aylin, who showed a good attitude to plough through tough conditions in a decent maiden at the Glorious Goodwood meeting.
Trained by the masterful Karl Burke, who has been nothing short of remarkable with his juveniles this season, Aylin was sent off a very short 8/11 chance to make a winning debut over six furlongs up at York earlier in the season. She couldn't quite get the better of the previous winner Bosa Nova that day but the vibes from her homework were clearly positive and she evidently learnt plenty from the experience.
Karl Burke's filly might not need to improve much in order to get seriously involved here and from a good draw in stall two, she can put her course experience to good use.
1pt Win – Aylin
Odds – 11/2
Andrew Balding has been amongst the winners this week and he'll surely be disappointed if Jonquil cannot get back on track in the Celebration Mile Stakes.
It's easy enough to put a line through his recent disappointment in a muddling Lennox Stakes, where they looked to get away on the front end and he ended up with too much to do over seven furlongs.
Stepping back up to a mile ought to work in his favour and he's well-treated at the weights with his three-year-old allowance.
The form of his narrow defeat in the French 2000 Guineas over a mile earlier in the season looks rock solid with both Camille Pissarro and Luther in behind, while he was fairly forced to be dropped to six furlongs for the Commonwealth Cup by his connections, who at the time, looked to hold an abundance of riches in the mile division.
This should prove much more suitable and if back to anywhere near his best, he ought to collect this on his way to bigger and better things.
1pt Win – Jonquil
Odds – 2/1
