Godolphin announce shock death of Ruling Court

Godolphin have announced the shock death of their 2000 Guineas hero Ruling Court after the top-class three-year-old was euthanised following complications due to laminitis.

The Charlie Appleby-trained colt completed the opening leg of a memorable 2000/1000 Guineas double at Newmarket for the handler, seeing off subsequent dual Group 1 winner Field Of Gold in dramatic fashion before stablemate Desert Flower produced a striking performance in the fillies' equivalent the following day.

Ruling Court's shot at the Epsom Derby was bypassed due to soft ground but he went on to continue performing at the top-level by finishing in both the St James's Palace Stakes and Coral-Eclipse.

A striking son of Justify, Ruling Court also landed the Jumeirah 2000 Guineas at Meydan in March. He amassed over £600,000 in prize-money during his six-start career, winning three and finishing in the bronze medal position on the other three occasions.

Appleby told www.godolphin.com: "Everyone at Godolphin is deeply saddened by the loss of Ruling Court.

"He gave everyone a fantastic day at Newmarket in May and he will be sorely missed. I would like to thank all of the team, who did everything they could to save him."

Field Of Gold given Champions Day aim

Connections of Field Of Gold have revealed that they will look towards the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot as he continues to go through his recovery.

A striking grey son of Kingman, Field Of Gold was sent off a short price market leader to complete a Group 1 hat-trick in the Sussex Stakes following his dominant performances in both the Irish 2000 Guineas and St James's Palace Stakes.

However, John and Thady Gosden's charge picked up an injury during the contest in which he failed to reel in 150/1 chance Qirat, with connections now eyeing an October return for their latest stable star.

London & The South claim 2025 Racing League

Matt Chapman's London & The South were crowned Racing League winners for 2025 on the final night at Southwell last night.

Having built up a sizeable lead in the early parts of the series, Chapman's team never really looked in doubt heading into the final evening and despite failing to find the winners' circle at Southwell on Thursday, they had plenty to spare over rivals The East, who themselves enjoyed three winners on the night.

London & The South's Richard Kingscote, who has already made his voyage to Hong Kong, was crowned leading rider, with The East's Danny Muscutt claiming the silver medal.

London & The South finished the series with 840 points, with The East well adrift on 765.

Chapman said: "I am absolutely over the moon that our trainers, jockeys, owners and horses have managed to beat the best of the best."

Porta Fortuna ruled out for the rest of the season

Porta Fortuna will miss the remainder of the season as she continues to recover from an injury. The Donnacha O'Brien-trained filly will now head to a sale this autumn.

Following a breakthrough success at the top-level in the Cheveley Park at Newmarket, Porta Fortuna produced a three-year-old campaign that saw her crowned the Cartier Champion three-year-old filly, with a narrow defeat in the 1000 Guineas proceeded by Group 1 victories in the Coronation, Falmouth and Matron Stakes.

The daughter of Caravaggio made a winning reappearance in the Group 2 Lanwades Stud Stakes on Irish Guineas weekend but a setback in which she picked up in preparation for the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot will rule her out for the season.
