Sam King has tipped four winners from his last three columns and returns with two selections on Wednesday.
It's another day where low-grade stuff comes to the fore, although there are some interesting novice/maidens in action at Kempton this evening.
Restricted maidens aren't always my cup of tea, but I'm drawn towards the claims of What's The Plan at Lingfield this afternoon (3.05).
Trained by in-form Newmarket-based handler James Fanshawe, who got a 27% strike rate with his runners on the all-weather at Lingfield this year, What's The Plan arrives to the Surrey venue on the back of two promising efforts.
He fairly caught the eye when running on nicely from midfield to finish runner-up on debut at Leicester earlier in the season, a performance that can naturally be upgraded given that his handlers runners tend to improve bundles for their initial experience.
Whilst he failed to take another step forward when third in novice company at Haydock last time out, it's likely we didn't see him to best effect that day. James Fanshawe's juvenile raced freely enough towards the front end on his return from a short break, while he didn't look to be enjoying herself in the closing stages for whatever reason when hanging left-handed late on.
The form of his debut second at Leicester looks solid enough, with the winner now rated 88 after finishing fourth in the often-informative Listed Pat Eddery Stakes at Ascot in July, while the application of a first-time hood on his all-weather debut could bring out some improvement.
He's well drawn in gate three and could take some beating if back to the form he showed first time out.
2pt win – What's The Plan
Odds – 15/8
Earlier on the card, the in-form Motazzen surely has every chance of continuing his excellent run of form in the Class 5 handicap at 2.05.
The Henrietta Knight-trained seven-year-old was in fine form last year, completing a hat-trick over hurdles at the turn of the year with a commanding success in a novice handicap hurdle at Southwell.
Returned to the same venue following 228 days off, but this time on the level, Henrietta Knight's charge produced the same result, defying odds of 50/1 to beat a solid field in a mile and a half handicap.
Having settled nicely in midfield under Cieren Fallon, who retains the ride, he picked up nicely before battling on well late on to score by a half length a length. He only looked to be doing what was required of him once hitting the front and there's a suspicion that there could be more to come from this thriving seven-year-old.
A 7lb rise in the weights will demand more, but he's now dropped to Class 5 company and with further progress possible, this gelded son of Dubawi gets the vote to complete the double.
1pt Win – Motazzen
Odds – 5/2
