Big Mojo enjoyed his day in the sun this season when running out a commanding winner of the Group 1 Betfair Sprint Cup at Haydock.
The Mick Appleby-trained three-year-old made a successful reappearance at Ascot in April but had been largely out of luck since, finishing runner-up to the re-opposing No Half Measures in the July Cup before only managing to finish behind Jm Jungle in the King George Qatar Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.
However, under an uncomplicated William Buick ride, Big Mojo showed what he was truly capable of, travelling powerfully into contention down the near side rail before delivering a devastating turn of foot late on to score by a length and a quarter.
Kind Of Blue got the better of fellow Wathnan Racing contender Flora Of Bermuda by a nose to claim the runner-up spot, while Lazzat, who also sported the same silks having been purchased by the leading owners prior to his Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot, could only finish fifth for Jerome Reynier and James Doyle.
Buick, who was struggling to pull up the winner after crossing the line, told ITV Racing: "The hardest job was getting him to the start and pulling him up!
"He's just a real sprinter – he's got two speeds. He was lovely and smooth throughout the race, and I really didn't have a moment of worry.
"We got a nice tow into the race until about halfway and then off he went and made his own way home."
Bow Echo strikes in Ascendant Stakes
Just thirty-five minutes after Sheikh Mohammed Obaid's Zeus Olympios maintained his unbeaten record, Bow Echo also kept his perfect profile intact with a snug success in the Betting.Betfair Ascendant Stakes for the same owners.
Stepping up to Listed company on the back of a facile debut win at Newbury, George Boughey's talented two-year-old found plenty late on to see off the John and Thady Gosden-trained Publish by a length.
Harry Middleton, pupil assistant to winning trainer George Boughey, said: "We always knew he was a talented horse at home and obviously going to a novice and winning the way he did….George has trained enough good horses to know there is no point wasting time and going for another novice, you may as well take a step up.
"He was never the earliest or sharpest horse but is coming now and has proved himself. To win a race like that, I'd like to think he can step up again.
"He is a lovely horse at home and definitely has got a bit about him. He is so professional in his. Jordan rides him every day in his work and the two of them together is a bit of a scene. He is a gorgeous horse to train.
"It was only a Listed race today, but you have to think of the Guineas for him now."
Zeus Olympios reigns supreme
Karl Burke looks to have a very exciting prospect on his hands after Zeus Olympios took his record to three from three in the Group 3 Best Odds On The Betfair Exchange Superior Mile at Haydock.
An impressive winner on debut at Kempton, Karl Burke's three-year-old was sent off the well-backed 11/4 market leader to supplement his impressive Thirsk success on the Merseyside.
Always going nicely under William Buick, the flashy chestnut Night Of Thunder colt picked up well in the straight to pass the line a couple of lengths in front of Excellent Believe.
"He's always worked nicely, and William said after a furlong he knew he was on a very nice horse," said Burke, who landed the prize twelve months ago with Holloway Boy.
"He's a lovely horse with a great mind, but I was a bit worried whether I was doing the right thing dropping him in this grade on his third run. He ran quite green at Thirsk last time.
"I think he'll improve again from three to four with another winter on his back."
