Owen Burrows’ Remmooz showed his excellent resilience to get back to winning ways in the Listed Dubai Duty Free Cup Stakes at Newbury.
A winner of his first two outings over this trip at Doncaster, Owen Burrows' charge ran well in the Group 3 Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot before landing a York handicap in July.
He finished third behind the progressive Bullet Point in a mile handicap back at the Ebor meeting in August, but dropped back to seven furlongs here, he was all the rage to get back to winning ways under Callum Rodriguez.
As expected, Volterra and Spy Chief ensured that there was plenty of pace for Remmooz to aim at. However, it looked as though Volterra was going to land the spoils by toughing it out on the front end, but with proven stamina in the bag, Remmooz battled on past in the shadows of the post to score by a head.
Speaking to Sky Sports Racing, Callum Rodriguez said: "It was a fairly straightforward race to weigh-up. We knew those two (Spy Chief and Volterra) would go forward so we'd get a nice even gallop.
"It was a nice performance. Volterra sort of kicked and took a few lengths out of us. We had a bit of work to do inside the last two, but he responded well.
"I do think a mile is his optimum trip at the moment. He's a horse that can travel well but he's probably best suited to a mile.
"He's coped fine with the ground today. He only a young horse and hopefully he can improve with a winter on his back."
