Bath's afternoon card looks particularly tricky but I'm happy to take a very small chance on Kinetic Force in the feature Class 4 five-furlong sprint at 4.52.

Trained by Des Donovan, Kinetic Force has fairly been out of sorts in his last three outings, beating home just four rivals across the trio of contests. However, as a result he's steadily sliding back down in the weights to a mark which we know he can be competitive off.

He was drawn widest of all when last of nine at Lingfield earlier in the month before again not being handed the kindest of the starting positions when beaten over the same course and distance next start, while it's unlikely that six furlongs on a track like Newmarket will have seen him to best effect last time out.

A runner-up on quick ground over five furlongs at Yarmouth in August, Kinetic Force now finds himself 5lb lower here and back at venue where he enjoyed course and distance success off 75 back in April.

There's no doubt that he needs to bounce back to his best, but he's had excuses for some recent poor performances and with conditions to suit once more, I'll take a chance that he can turn up at around the 16/1 mark.

1pt Win – Kinetic Force

Odds – 16/1

Richard Hughes has only sent seven horses to Newcastle in the last five seasons, but his selective approach has yielded an impressive four winners (57% strike rate) and a +£17.75 rate to the £1 level stake.

He runs three horses on Tuesday but only one heads to Newcastle, with Smartanck making the long journey north in an attempt to increase his trainers quite excellent strike-rate at the Gosforth Park venue.

Having shown ability on his three qualifying runs earlier in the year, Smartanck looked like the type that could progress through the ranks when running out a well-backed winner on his nursery debut at Wolverhampton recently, keeping on strongly under hands and heels riding to score in snug style.

He still looked raw and green in the closing stages, suggesting there could be plenty more when the penny eventually does drop, while this stiff seven furlongs at Newcastle should be right up his street.

A 6lb penalty for that breakthrough victory doesn't hold any fears and with further improvement on the cards, he looks poised to follow-up for a trainer who rarely misses with his runners at this venue.

2pt Win – Smartanck

Odds – 5/2
