Sam King is back with a couple of wagers on Wednesday.
There's not much that catches my eye at the afternoon meetings so it's over to Kempton we head this evening for both selections.
Clive Cox hasn't exactly been firing in the winners of late, but his horses have been running well enough to suggest there's no issue and I'm quite interested in Middleton View, who returns from 176 days off the track.
Owned by Opulence Thoroughbreds, Middleton View failed to produce any worthwhile form of note on his first two outings in the summer of last year and in all truth, looked like a lost cause at that stage.
However, a gelding operation and some time off the track seemingly did the trick as he returned to make his all-weather debut at Kempton in February. He didn't manage to get his head in front on that occasion, but it was a hugely improved effort to chase home the now 98-rated Berkshire Whisper, who went on to score twice at Newcastle before finishing fourth in the Listed Carnarvon Stakes at Newbury.
He blew out on his handicap debut a month later, but the rep suggested their colt was unsuited by the drying ground on that occasion, so it's no surprise to see him back to the scene of his sole good run this evening.
Clive Cox's son of Bated Breath surely has the ability to make his mark off a rating of 75 and although there are clear risks attached, he looks worth chancing at the current prices.
1pt Win – Middleton View
Odds – 6/1
In the following contest at 6.00, Ten Pounds should take some beating for the Harry Charlton and Billy Loughnane team.
Trainer Harry Charlton has been moving along smoothly in recent weeks with a tasty 23% strike rate over the last fortnight and he looks to have found a nice spot for his talented six-furlong performer Ten Pounds, who deserves to get his head back in front following some cracking efforts in handicap company.
He looked a touch unlucky when a close-up third in the Wokingham Stakes at Royal Ascot before again running a blinder behind subsequent Group 2 scorer More Thunder in the Bunbury Cup on the July Course last time out. It's also worth noting that the sixth home, Run Boy Run, went on to land the Ayr Gold Cup last month.
Dropping back to six furlongs looks ideal and with an unbeaten record of two from two on the all-weather, this surface ought to hold no fears.
Harry Charlton's charge should be able to get a decent position despite being drawn widest of all in gate seven and if fully tuned up following 81 days off, he might take some stopping.
1pt Win – Ten Pounds
Odds – 13/8
