King’s best bets - 8th October 2025

Sam King is back with two selections on Wednesday.

Racing over a mile and a quarter as a juvenile is by no means an easy feat, but it should really suit Sea The Power in the British Stallion Studs EBF Nursery (2.58) at Nottingham.

A promising third behind subsequent winner Ancient Egypt on his debut at Beverley, he went on to finish a highly respectable seventh in England's most valuable maiden at York next time out before narrowly getting off the mark when stepping up to a mile at Ayr last time.

Always towards the fore on his third start, it was tough not to be impressed with the way that he knuckled down in the closing stages to fend off the Richard Fahey-trained Mr Colonel, who has already seen the form of his debut second franked with the winner going on to fill the runner-up spot behind Dorset in the Goffs Million at the Curragh next time out.

Oisin Mcsweeney will likely attempt to make this a real test on the German-bred son of Sea The Moon, who is bred to relish stepping up to this sort of trip and will almost certainly get further next year as a three-year-old.

An opening mark of 80 doesn't look too daunting for Adrian Keatley's two-year-old and he can make a successful nursery debut.

1pt Win – Sea The Power

Odds – 11/4

The second selection on the card comes in the Download The PricedUp App Handicap (4.30), where the bottom weight King Al makes plenty of appeal in a wide-open looking contest.

Trained by talented dual purpose handler Alan King, he immediately showed a liking for testing conditions when making a winning debut over a mile at Haydock in October last year.

It's easy to excuse his disappointing effort under a penalty at Wolverhampton following a lengthy break and it was good to see him back on track when a promising fifth on his handicap debut at Doncaster in the summer.

He took another step forward from that Doncaster effort when running out a gutsy winner of a ten-furlong handicap at Newbury a month later, shaping as though there could be more to come from him in middle-distance handicaps with ease in the ground.

Conditions should be testing enough at Nottingham this afternoon and with further progress expected from this unexposed son of Al Kazeem, he's taken to defy a 4lb higher mark with James Doyle, an interesting booking at the foot of the weights.

1pt Win – King Al

Odds – 15/2
