Eve Johnson Houghton is looking forward to her unbeaten Zavateri attempting to complete back-to-back Group 1 successes in this weekend's Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket.
The juvenile son of Without Parole, who cost just 35,000gns from the Tattersalls Book 2 Sale, has been one of the stories of the season for owners Mick and Janice Mariscotti.
An impressive debut success was followed by victories in both the Group 2 July Stakes and Vintage Stakes, leaving connections with little option to pitch their hardly two-year-old into top-level company.
Zavateri was forced to pull out all the stops to keep his unbeaten record intact at the Curragh but under an all-action Charlie Bishop drive, Eve Johnson Houghton's charge found plenty in the closing stages to make a winning debut at Group 1 level, fending off the Aidan O'Brien-trained trio to land the National Stakes.
He will now head to Newmarket's Rowley Mile to potentially take on the reopposing Gstaad and Charlie Appleby's exciting Distant Storm, with Johnson Houghton reporting her contender to be in excellent form ahead of his fifth start of the season.
Speaking from tattersalls on the Nick Luck Daily podcast, she said: "He's been in great form and we're very hopeful. Why wouldn't we be!"
"We've got one more big race in him this year and then we'll wrap up for the Guineas next year.
"We've always said we're going to go to the Dewhurst. Then the National Stakes just fitted in timewise, but the Dewhurst has always been the ultimate aim.
"He's not really ground dependent so it should be happy days. He looks great and is working great. He's only done one bit of work; he worked last fantastic and we're really happy with him."
